I did this on logic using a piano. The piano sounds happy, however there is rain in the background which makes it sound sad.

I came up with the idea when I was going through my first experience of family bereavement. The rain is everyones tears and sadness, and the happy piano is to symbolise everyone reliving there happy memories.

I think this has potential to be an instrumental for an orchestra.

In order to achieve this I will need to develop the instrumentation, by adding a string section and brass. The time signature is 4/4 and the key signature is C major. In order the highlight the sad emotion, the piece could modulate to the minor key.

This is an idea I came up with during one of the magnet sessions.

The chords I chose were inspired by modern country music. For example the use of an add9 and 7 chord are used in a lot of pop country music by artists such as Taylor Swift, The Band Perry ect.
The choice of instruments I arranged are also commonly used is country pop music (piano & guitar).

I think this has potential to become a full track, however if I want to achieve this I understand I will need to develop the piece.
To do this, I will add a clear structure. (ABA - Turnery). Other instuments e.g.- strings, drums, fiddle.
I will also need to write some lyrics and a vocal part.

The key of the piece is 4/4, to make it more folky I could change it to 6/8 time.

Three Idea

For this idea, I decided I wanted something "pretty" sounding.

The idea was played on guitar and used finger picking to make it sound 'delicate'. When I came up with the idea, I was inspired by acoustic musicians such as Ed Sheeran and Jake Bugg. To achieve a soft ornamented feel, I took inspiration from the slower songs of theirs, focusing mainly on the guitar part.

I think this track has potential to be a full composition. When I develop it further, I will set a structure by adding a clear verse, chorus, and bridge section. The time will stay at 4/4, as most pop songs do.
I also want to develop the instrumentation by adding a piano and soft drums in the chorus to vary the texture.

For this idea I used the chords G, D, Am & C. These chords are commonly used in pop music.

When I composed the idea, I was feeling happy hence the quick upbeat feel from the way the chords are played (quickly).

I think this song has potential to become a full track, because the chords used will easily blend along with others for a nice verse section. The chords I plan to use will be C, Em, D. The song will have a minor feel, so I may also change the way the chords are played by slowing them down to change the mood to a more sad feel.

For this idea, I decided to write some harmonies.

Harmonies are my favourite part of a song, and I especially love female on female harmonies the best.

When I came up with this little melody, the first thing I wanted to do was put in some harmonies.

I think to develop the idea, I need to add some words and make it longer. When I write the words, my mood will determine the mood of the song.

I think it has potential and could maybe fit into one of my other ideas
