I think allowing it everyday makes it become part of the daily routine and not really anything to look forward to, so I recommend allowing them to be able to earn free time on a Friday if the behavior was good the whole week. This might motivate them to work harder and get things done faster if they know they are going to have time to play games. I would use this as a reward. If they finish with an assignment earlier or get a good grade on a test, they might be able to have that time. At this age, students are likely to be a little bit more whiny as they get bored. For this reason, similar to what Darby said, if technology is being used as a brain break every single day, the students are going to end up getting bored of it and will likely resort to finding their own form of entertainment online. But, I feel like they should earn it. If a student misbehaves or refuses to do something, then their online free time should be revoked. We should also take into account why the student is acting the way they did, maybe pull them to the side and ask them if something is going on. Sometimes students act out because things aren't going well at home, etc. If a student has a valid reason as to why they aren't behaving then maybe reconsider taking away their free time.
