To start off with depending on which hand is your dominant hand indicates what side you are going to start from if you are left handed left side, right handed right side once that has been established use the trowel to gather plaster onto the hawk. (in order to get a smoother consistency use the trowel to lift the plaster and drop it down onto the hawk) the first layer is referred to as the scratch coat and to apply this to a wall you need paste the plaster on the wall as a measurement 4 trowel widths apart and 300mm in length. the scratch coat needs to be roughly around 10mm thick.

secondly you will start to work your way down the wall forming a square of about 1m2. the way to get wall plasterd correctly is to split it into sections as it will make it easier to be created methodiacally. after this section is ready use a comb scratcher to key the wall horizontally but not so deep that the wall is shown underneath this will allow the next to to grip to the wall.

lastly repeat this same method until the entire wall has the scratch coat on it . once it is finished use a straight edge in order to level it off in order to remove any high areas or to show whereabouts the low ares are so they can be filled in. when the plaster has set or is stiff enough a devil float can the be used to finish it of which will ready it for the finish coat. once the wall has set the trwel can be used in order to remove any snots which will disrut the application of the next layer.
