         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students used to GCSE predicted grades so not new system. However, current grade more realistic. Students respond differently to the motivation of a predicted grade. Depends on the subject and grade - some students might find the IPG demoralising if it's low.  Current grades are subject to change so can vary from term to term. If current grade is a C and all work reflects that, can we actually predict a B? May be hard to justify to students/parents an IPG if they don't reach it, whereas current grade is realistic. IPG makes us accountable. What do other colleges do? We already have MEG - confusing if current, IPG and MEG all different.  MEG is predicted (aspirational) grade.  With new courses difficult to predict grades until we have more mark schemes and grade boundaries after exams. Students can focus too much on grades rather than how to improve.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As soon as you say to a student their "predicted grade" in year, it can influence quite negatively what they achieve in the end. There is some big confusion between "current" and "predicted" . Kelley and Sam think we should have two grades - one which reflects current achievement levels but always coming with a motivating grade which highlights what the student could achieve if they made use of the advice and support that has been agreed with or outlined to them. The motivational grade should be about potential NOT "prediction". Working at/ working towards as language could help with this idea. The working at/ current grade is about their work, NOT about them. The working towards grade indicates more about their behaviours, what they can do, etc and links attitudinal grades.</div>]]></description>
