Darkness has its teachings. Love is never leaving... Quiet down the mind, the more this song will play.

This song holds an incredibly special place in my heart. Integrated in every word is a consciousness and energy that resonates deeply with me and encourages inward reflection and the core concept of being open. It is a song you almost have to take one sentence at a time, to absorb the fluidity of life, darkness, pain, hurt. This song seemingly forces you to breathe deeply, to inhale and then exhale, to expand and recognize the innate power and capability you hold as an individual. It carries strength and resilience, and like core concepts motivate new forms of social action and reform. This song genuinely encourages stillness and calmness and carries a truth of patience and validity in an individual's current state of being.

We are never really apart by Nick Mulvey

Knowing who we are, and our place in the stars. It's that we are never really apart from the whole of it all, in our indigenous hearts. Paint the earth on me...
Part of the album called Wake Up Now, this beautiful song integrates thought & action to culminate in expressing the core concept of starting with people. It helps with "seeing" this underlying concept that at the end of the day, we all come from one source, we all exist to better ourselves, the ones around us, and the planet we are on. This wisdom from a derived collective promotes participation in a community, and even showcases the strength and resilience of indigenous communities. With the line "paint the earth on me" it seemingly acknowledges the ideas of intersectional environmentalism and the importance and recognition of core identity when it comes to organizing community action and social change.

We built this city by Starship

Don't you remember? We built this city on rock & roll.

These are some lyrics featured in this rock & roll, pump up song. It holds a lot of personal meaning to me because it was super popular when I first moved to Canada, not knowing the language, culture, or values of this strange land I arrived in. While I was learning English, it difficult to make friends, as everyone else was on the stage of reading. However, during a movement class we all had to learn a coordinated dance to this song, and it was a beautiful new way to communicate with my peers and classmates. We danced, and through the repetition of the beat, I felt included despite not being able to relate through physical words. This song exemplifies the core concept of strengthening community, as it united us all on one front and allowed for deeper community engagement, making an immense advancement in my personal development and feeling of belonging.

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine all the people... living life in peace. I hope some day you will join us...and the world will be as one.

This song emphasizes the core concept of agents of change. This is another song that needs to be analyzed and reflected on line by line, because each holds so much wisdom, power, and truth. It talks about the unity, by calling himself a dreamer but acknowledging he is not alone. We are all capable of starting community action and social change, as every individual as the potential to be an agent for change. By describing the effects of such a powerful wholesome community, united through love and peace, this song encourages harmony and an opportunity to process information from the perspective of envisioning the outcomes of change and the global reform that could occur as a result.
