Part of what will make my classroom a community is involving parents and other staff members through the use of technology. For parents, I want to establish open communication through the use of the School Connect program. Within this program have a portal for our class that allows parents to see highlights from our learning, reminds them of upcoming events, and shares school news. For teachers, I can't wait to use my new training in Google Drive to share lesson plans, quizzes, ideas, and templates that will encourage collaborative teaching! I find this to be something we often forget. Some teachers think that if we provide chrome books to type we are "teaching" with tech. After being in this course, teaching with that approach barely scratches the surface on how useful tech as a tool really is. I will use tech to engage my students through showing them videos, encouraging them to explore blogs, to connect with one another on Google Classroom, and use fun apps such as Kahoot to bring excitement into their learning. I will use tech to make their learning meaningful by showing them how to think critically about what they see on the web or in their daily lives, such as the using the advertising lesson that I created. I think another way to bring meaning to learning is to show that in every issue there is more than one perspective that we need to consider to help us make the best informed decisions. Lastly, I think a lot of the apps we have explored such as Piktochart, ScreenCasts, and Google Forms make learning effective. Each of these apps allows us to showcase our learning in an effective, creative, and personalized outlet that makes connecting with others easier. It makes sharing our learning so convenient, all it takes is a click of a few buttons! Providing feedback now comes with ease and in a short amount of time. I love that these apps can be accessed for free and are accessible for anyone who has a device. In a community, people all come with different levels of comfort with technology so being able to be a patient leader is a must. I will also be a responsive leader, where I am open to suggestions and able to evaluate where the participants are at and help them along the way. Lastly, I think initiative is key aspect in leadership. I strive on goal setting and will continue to challenge myself in exploring new learning and opportunities that arise in my career. I will attend workshops and I am interested in taking part 2 of this AQ course. My end goal from this course was to feel more comfortable and aware of the technology available to enhance my teaching. I feel like I have achieved this goal :). I am so happy that I was exposed to Symbaloo. I will be making this my home screen and it will constantly remind me of the apps available that I can use on a daily basis in my own personalized portal. I also really enjoyed making an IMovie and the screencast was fun too! I can't wait to teach my students or even parents about programs such as School Connect, through a screencast! This course has been great for new learning. I am now comfortable using a variety of apps to make teaching easier and make learning more engaging for students. I love using Padlet and Picktochart for creative ways to display learning or information. I am eager to show these outlets to my students as a way to make their learning more exciting. Chalk.com will come in handy for lesson plans, Newsela is a great reading program. I am thrilled with the exposure this course has given me to new apps. I now have a Twitter account, and it is my goal to use it weekly. I enjoy reading blogs from other educators and learning from their experiences.
