These photos portrayed the lives of Japanese Americans before and during their encampment. It depicted moments before the order to migrate was given, the closing of stores, and the long lines of people in sweltering heat. These photos show another side to the encampments that we didn't see from Eisenhower's video. We can see how the order truly affected these citizens and people.

It's difficult to see these photographs and comprehend the full effects of what had happened. Seeing faces, children, and people brings a hard reality to the situation. No longer are these nameless people that are being taken away in isolated camps to wait out the next decade. These were people, genuine people, with names and lives and a mom and dad and a pet dog and had a habit of hiding away sweets at night and enjoyed taking bike rides during the weekends.

I thought the use of tags as identification cards just took it one step further in the dehumanization of Asian Americans. There is also something unsettling about the way children would salute the American flag, almost as if they were being taught young that what was being done to them and they families was the best thing for them.

It is difficult to see the truly inhumane treatment of Japanese-Americans. It makes sense that the government would spread propaganda, such as the film, and use alternative language to cover up these acts. It is noticeable that the children were looking at the flag and learning to love and trust the country that would do nothing but hurt them.
