"In spite of everything, I believe people are good at heart."
-Ana Frank

Ana Frank was killed during the Holocaust along with many other Jews. Stereotypes do not limit themselves to the first image or idea that comes to your mind whenever you meet a new person in the street, stereotypes are the very root of racism. Determinating that all people must be the same because they share a couple of characteristics, is the very same reason why most people at some point do not allow themselves to discover and acknowledge the real truth of humanity; We are all chimps with little hair, but still unique. Something that goes beyond our cultural identity. Our capacity to do something divergent from the rest of the individuals.

My mother bought these boots in a shoe fair in Leon Guanajuato. She was looking for a new pair of boots. She found this pair, and she immediately loved them. These boots have been in my family for 20 years, and my mother still loves them. These boots are a clear cultural symbol of Charro culture, and they are used in many cultural demonstration and rituals.

I used to live in Leon Guanajuato, and the shoe culture among the citizens is highly present. Something that I find really interesting.

I had the fortune to visit the Straat museum in Amsterdam. It was an old depot that was transformed into a shelter for street art pieces. One of the things that stuck the most to me was the importance that street art has had on the history of these cities. It is more than just a way of expressing one self, but a form of protest against the prohibition and restriction of freedom of speech.

I made this piece in an special section of the museum where you could paint with spray. It says “Mamba”, which is the name of my cat.

How can art be used to fight for justice? Art is the result of an era, a reflection of the time. Art can and will always be used to fight, because the most effective way of making a change, it’s by reaching the deepest parts of the human mind. And art does so majestically.

Its sure been a journey. Even though our classroom is full of messy and noisy people, i did learned quite a lot! Mony truly did a wonderful work trying to inspire change in a community so closed from the rest of the world as it is ours.

No doubtedly the most valuable thing i take from this course is the importance of staying in touch with whats going on in our world. Its super easy to stay in our comfort zone without actually worrying about the multiple issues that attack our world, because we do not suffer from it. But the fact that we don´t suffer from it currently, does not mean we won´t in a near future.

Art funges as a great way of getting to know how does conflict and hard times influence in the way a person can express him/herself. Art is the way the mind has of speaking for itself. Art is the key to understanding each other.
