To avoid these happenings, we must find ways to meet in the middle or at least listen to what each has to say, creating possible solutions to the occurring problems.

I honestly think that there is not much we can do to change this trend. As a young peacebuilder, I would want to encourage people to listen and understand each other. I would advocate for more understanding than blasting out hatred. Even if we have different politcal views, it doesn't mean that we will cancel one another. We should learn to respect one another regardless of the different opinions of people. After all, people are different and so is there views in life or in other things.

I've already expressed in a previous Padlet my distaste for social media algorithms and their tendency to promote only inflammatory remarks from either sides of an argument and causing people to base their view on a certain group on foundations that only create intolerance and hate. This is a form of tribalism that promotes an "us vs them" mentality and closes the window of civil discussion. 

It makes us see opposing viewpoints through a lens that overgeneralizes beliefs and groups of people, killing nuance and changing our perception of them to be nothing more than caricatures built off of what we have been taught to believe about them. 

It is my personal belief nowadays that it is becoming more and more difficult to hold a centrist point of view; you will always be pressured to pick one side or another. If you agree with one aspect of Team A's argument and another of Team B's, both groups will accuse you of belonging to the other, or criticize you for being "unable to make up your mind", even if the two ideas seem totally compatible with each other. This is a manufactured hatred meant to keep people divided, and it does its job unfortunately well.

As peacebuilders, it is critically important to keep an open mind and remember to put yourselves in the positions of even the people whom you hold bearings against. Voicing dissent does not require smugness nor anger; disagreement can be shown and resolved in a way that is civil and productive. 

Do NOT limit yourself to only one viewpoint. This is crucial to productive discussion with opposition. A singular, rigid point of view on things will suffocate both you and the people you speak with; if the beliefs of everyone involved is set in stone and truly unchangeable, is there actually any room for discussion?

We can't deny that everyone has different perspectives, opinions, and beliefs on politics. While everyone has the right to exercise this, I believe that this, however, has caused disagreements and conflicts within the society. As a young peacebuilder, we can change this trend, and there is one thing I learned from YPA, and that is to understand why people have opinions different from ours. Understand why they may believe in something that we don't believe in. Another thing, I've noticed that shutting down others' opinions on certain stuff escalates to conflict, so I think that we should, at the very least, try to hear out the other side. And when we do, perhaps we can educate them with our side, and later on come into a united conclusion.

The 2022 Presidential Elections showed that. When someone would shout support for someone who isn't the popular candidate, they'd get attacked. It's ironic, honestly. The polarization of the youth in the Philippines is frightening. It is ok to have different opinions, just do not attack another party for it. We are free people. We can disagree, we can argue, we can debate, just do not attack nor harass.

A lot of opinions especially from those around me have complained about the government's inefficiencies and lack of honor and dignity, claiming that other jobs, are much more noble, especially those that fall under the field of medicine. If we were to look for a specific answer, one way I can think within the bounds of peacebuilding is for the young to teach the old to be more open to political change and other political systems, but that's too complicated. A simplified version is for people of different political circles to come around and diplomatically discuss that issues of our own political circles.
