Reflection on Adab with al-Qur’an

Through this assignment, I have come to realize that having adab with the Qur’an is not only about reading it, but also about the respect, sincerity, and humility we show towards it. The Qur’an is not just a book to be read, but the word of Allah that serves as guidance, mercy, and light for our lives. When we approach it with proper manners, we are showing respect to the message of Allah and positioning ourselves as humble servants who seek His knowledge and guidance.

I reflected that adab with the Qur’an begins even before we recite it: by purifying ourselves, preparing our hearts, and having the right intention. While reading, it is important to recite with tajwid, a calm tone, and focus, avoiding distractions. More importantly, adab also includes living by the teachings of the Qur’an—practicing what we learn instead of treating it as mere words.

This assignment has reminded me that my relationship with the Qur’an should be continuous, not just during class or certain times of the year. Respecting, memorizing, reflecting upon, and implementing its teachings are lifelong responsibilities. I also realized that neglecting the Qur’an or treating it without respect can distance me from Allah’s mercy.

In conclusion, the essence of adab with the Qur’an is to honor it with both our actions and our hearts. This reflection has encouraged me to be more conscious in how I approach the Qur’an, to not only recite it regularly, but to strive to embody its teachings in my daily life.

Reflection on Hadith Jibril

From this assignment, I have realized how important Hadith Jibril is in understanding the foundations of our religion. In this hadith, Angel Jibril came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the form of a man and asked questions about Islam, Iman, Ihsan, and the signs of the Last Day. The Prophet’s answers summarize the entire religion in a clear and simple way.

Reflecting on this hadith, I see that Islam is not only about the physical acts of worship like prayer, fasting, and zakat, but also about our belief in the unseen and our inner state of sincerity. The explanation of Iman reminds me that faith is not just words but trust and conviction in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and Qadar. Ihsan, which is to worship Allah as if we see Him, shows me that the highest level of faith is about developing deep awareness of Allah in all that we do.

This hadith also teaches me that learning about the religion is not shameful, because Jibril asked questions openly for the benefit of the companions. It reminds me that asking questions with humility is part of seeking knowledge. Moreover, the hadith highlights that the Day of Judgment is certain, even though its exact time is hidden from us, and that we should prepare for it through faith and good deeds.

Overall, reflecting on Hadith Jibril has strengthened my understanding that Islam is a complete way of life, covering belief, practice, and spirituality. It has encouraged me to work on all three aspects of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan so that my faith is balanced and sincere, and to always remember that Allah is watching me.

In Week 3, we learned about the first three Pillars of Iman, which form the foundation of a Muslim’s belief:

1. Belief in Allah

Believing in Allah means accepting that there is only one God, the Creator of everything. He has no partners or equals. This belief teaches Muslims to worship sincerely, trust Allah in all situations, and live with purpose and obedience.

2. Belief in the Angels

Angels are created from light and carry out Allah’s commands. They record our deeds, protect believers, and deliver revelations. Knowing about the angels reminds us that Allah is always aware of our actions and encourages us to do good.

3. Belief in the Revealed Books

This pillar means believing in all the scriptures Allah sent to His prophets, including the Torah, Psalms, Gospel, and the Qur’an — the final and complete revelation. It teaches us to follow the Qur’an as our main guidance in life.

This week, I learned about three important pillars of faith — belief in the prophets, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree. Each of these pillars deepened my understanding of how a Muslim should view life, purpose, and destiny.

Iman kepada Rasul (Belief in the Prophets)

Believing in the prophets reminds me that Allah always guided humankind through chosen messengers. They were sent to teach people about truth, patience, and obedience to Allah. I realize that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger, and his teachings are perfect and complete. This inspires me to follow his sunnah and apply his character in my daily life — to be honest, kind, and patient.

Iman kepada Hari Kiamat (Belief in the Day of Judgment)

Reflecting on the Day of Judgment makes me more aware that everything I do in this world has consequences. It encourages me to do good deeds sincerely and avoid sins, knowing that one day I will stand before Allah for accountability. This belief helps me focus on living a meaningful life, preparing for the hereafter (akhirah), and striving to enter Jannah.

Iman kepada Qada’ dan Qadar (Belief in Divine Decree)

Belief in Qada’ and Qadar teaches me that everything happens according to Allah’s plan and wisdom. Whether something good or bad happens, it is all part of Allah’s decree. This helps me stay calm during challenges and grateful during blessings. It strengthens my trust (tawakkal) in Allah and reminds me that He knows what is best for me.

Overall Reflection:

These three pillars strengthen my faith by teaching me patience, accountability, and trust in Allah’s will. They remind me that life is a test and that everything happens for a reason. By believing in these aspects, I feel more spiritually grounded and motivated to become a better Muslim.

🌿 My Reflection on Ihsan in Islam

When I think about Ihsan, I see it as one of the most beautiful and challenging aspects of my faith. To me, Ihsan means striving for excellence in everything I do, not just in my prayers or worship, but in my daily actions, words, and intentions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described Ihsan as “to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you.” This reminder always makes me pause and reflect on how conscious I am of Allah’s presence in my life.

I realize that practicing Ihsan isn’t only about being perfect; it’s about being sincere. It pushes me to check my intentions, am I doing something to please people, or to please Allah? When I do something with the awareness that Allah is watching me, I naturally try to do it with honesty, kindness, and care.

I also think Ihsan teaches me to go beyond what’s expected. It inspires me to forgive others, to help even when it’s inconvenient, and to stay patient when things get tough. It reminds me that every small act can become an act of worship if done with the right intention.

In my daily life, I try to bring Ihsan into my prayers, my studies, and even the way I treat others. It’s not always easy, but it keeps me grounded and mindful of Allah’s presence. For me, living with Ihsan means constantly striving to be the best version of myself not for recognition, but for the sake of Allah.

🌿 My Reflection on Da’wah to People Older Than Me

When I think about giving da’wah to people who are older than me, I realize it can be both rewarding and challenging. As a young person, it sometimes feels intimidating to speak about Islam to elders because I worry they might think I’m being disrespectful or that I don’t know enough. But I’ve learned that da’wah isn’t about proving who knows more, it’s about sharing goodness with sincerity and humility.

I remind myself that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to convey the message of Islam with wisdom, gentleness, and respect. When talking to someone older, I try to approach them with genuine care and good manners, because respect is part of da’wah itself. Even small actions, like showing kindness, patience, or honesty, can be a form of silent da’wah.

Sometimes I realize that da’wah doesn’t have to be through long speeches or debates. It can be through my character. If I act with good akhlaq (manners), people might see the beauty of Islam without me having to say much.

Doing da’wah to older people has taught me humility, that guidance comes only from Allah, not from my words alone. My role is just to be a good example, speak with love, and leave the rest to Him. In the end, da’wah is not just about changing others, but also about improving myself and deepening my own faith.

Based on what I have learned, I understand that ḥikmah is not just knowledge but the ability to understand Allah’s guidance and apply it in my life through sincere ʿibādah. I realise that every action I perform depends on my niyyah, as Allah values the intention behind my deeds more than their outward form. This awareness encourages me to purify my intentions so that my acts of worship and good deeds are done solely for Allah’s pleasure. Through consistent ʿamal, such as prayer, charity, and kindness, I strive to reflect my faith in my daily life. The concept of Ihsan reminds me to worship Allah with awareness that He sees me at all times, which strengthens my sense of accountability and motivates me to improve both my worship and character. Overall, I see Islam as a continuous process of aligning wisdom, intention, and action to become a better servant of Allah.

Through my understanding, I realise that I gain ḥikmah from ʿibādah when I perform my worship with sincere intention and remain consistent in my acts of obedience to Allah. When my worship is done purely for His pleasure, my heart becomes more open to guidance and understanding. As a result, I find that this wisdom helps me make better decisions in my life and act according to Allah’s commands. At the same time, engaging regularly in ʿibādah nurtures positive qualities within me, such as patience, humility, and gratitude, which bring inner peace and strengthen my character.

Before performing ṣalāh, I realise that achieving khushūʿ begins with proper preparation. When I purify myself through wuḍūʾ, I am not only cleansing my body but also calming my mind and heart. I prepare myself by choosing a clean place, dressing modestly, and distancing myself from distractions, which helps me focus fully on my prayer. Setting a sincere niyyah reminds me that I am standing before Allah, not merely performing a routine action. By understanding the meanings of what I recite and reminding myself that Allah sees and hears me, I am able to pray with greater humility, concentration, and presence of heart.

When I perform ṣalāh with khushūʿ, I begin to experience many positive virtues within myself. Praying with full focus and humility strengthens my sincerity and deepens my awareness of Allah’s presence. It nurtures patience and self-discipline, as I learn to control my thoughts and actions during worship. Ṣalāh with khushūʿ also softens my heart, helping me develop gratitude, humility, and calmness, which guide my behaviour beyond prayer. Through this mindful worship, I feel spiritually connected to Allah and motivated to improve my character in daily life.

Through fasting, I learn the true meaning of self-control and sincerity in my worship of Allah. By abstaining from food, drink, and desires, I become more conscious of Allah’s presence and more aware of my dependence on Him. Fasting nurtures patience, humility, and gratitude, as it allows me to empathise with those who are less fortunate. It also purifies my heart and strengthens my discipline, helping me resist negative habits and improve my character. Through this act of ʿibādah, I feel spiritually renewed and closer to Allah.

Through giving zakāh and ṣadaqah, I learn the virtues of generosity, compassion, and social responsibility. Sharing my wealth reminds me that everything I own belongs to Allah and that I am only a trustee of His blessings. This act of giving purifies my heart from greed and strengthens my gratitude for what I have. Zakāh and ṣadaqah also nurture humility and empathy, as they connect me to the struggles of others and encourage me to contribute positively to the well-being of the community. Through this form of worship, I grow spiritually while helping to create balance and justice in society.
