SMART Goals Discussion Board (pd. 3) by Sydney Suzuki

Directions: Earlier, you created two SMART goals—one academic and one personal. Now it’s time to reflect:
	•	What were your two SMART goals?
	•	What steps have you already taken to move toward each goal?
	•	What challenges have come up so far, and how did you respond to them?
	•	What steps do you still need to take to achieve your goals?
	•	Do you need to adjust your plan or timeline in any way? Why or why not?
	•	How will it feel to accomplish each of these goals?

💡 Reminder: SMART goals are only effective if you keep checking in on them. Progress isn’t always perfect—but reflection keeps you moving forward.

Write at least two solid paragraphs that reflect honestly on your effort, progress, and what comes next.

My two smart goals are one personal and one Academic goal. My Personal goal is to be part of at least one sport this school year. And my Academic goal is to get my GPA to a 4.0 so I can get into good collages. Some steps that I have took to reach my academic goal is that I have worked really hard in my classes so now I have straight 100% A's. And for my personal goal I am going to try out for wrestling.

Some challenges that have came up is that the school work for my classes is hard. I still need to continue to work hard until I get my GPA and make the wrestling team. I think I might have to adjust my academic goal to be longer because I am not able to get my GPA until later in the year. I will feel very happy to accomplish each of these goals.

My two SMART goals were both school related and they were to maintain at least a B or higher in all of my classes. The steps that I have currently taken to reach my goal is by turning in my work on time and making sure that the work I turn in is good quality work. A challenge I have come up is trying to maintain a good grade in my language class, but I have been studying the new vocab words which is helping me a lot during class.

The steps that I need to take to achieve both of my goals is still a work in progress but for now I am fulfilling my goals. I don't think that I need to adjust my timeline because my goals are dated and seem within reach. Accomplishing these goals will make me feel happy and proud of myself.

For my short term academic goal, I want to work on understanding my algebra class by the end of the semester. I hope to accomplish that by going to that class during intervention more. And start studying after school for at least an hour or more. I want to do this because after high school algebra is pretty important to know.

As for my personal long time goal, I want to travel after college. I do not care where I travel I just want to experience new things. I will try and get a part time job at least next year. I will create a high yield savings account and put part of my check into it each time. Hopefully at one point I will be able to have enough money to go to at least one foreign place.

A step I've already taken, is studying or doing algebra work after school. I tend to do it all night till I have to go to sleep. As for my personal goal, I've been looking for places that are hiring but I'm unable to find anything yet. I still need to figure out more about the savings account.

Some challenges that have come up is not being able to find any places hiring. And a lot of my friends that work say that its the worst thing, and that concerns me. I will just have to see for myself. As for my algebra class, were assigned homework every day. And learn something new everyday. Its hard to keep track. And every lesson goes against the last. That is why I will work harder in my spare time.

Personal Long Term: When I graduate college, I want to become a mechanical engineer. I want to build so many things, robots being my priority. I will accomplish this by doing good in school, and going to a good college.

Academic Short Term: I want to improve my studying habits. I want to improve my studying habits because, there will be difficult tests and projects. This will help me for my long term goal, and my academic life. I will achieve this goal by prioritizing study time over my free time.

Personal Goal - I've been watching videos online on what Mechanical engineering is. It's been showing me how to pursue mechanical engineering and other things.

Academic goal: I've been doing school work at home instead of playing on my phone.

A challenge I have been hit with was my lack of actual time to work on my work. For example. I'm usually not home for the day. But I usually, stay up for a little longer just to do some work.

A step I need to do in order to achieve my goal is to keep my grades up so I can get scholarships. Mainly because, my total schooling costs roughly $300,000+ even if I do get college credits in high school.

My two SMART goals were academic (short term), and personal (long term). My academic goal was to achieve almost all A's in all of my classes. I said I would achieve this goal by putting the most effort I possibly can into my academics. Some steps I've already taken to maintain straight A's right now is turning in assignments up to the standard and trying to strive to go above and beyond. Some additional steps I need to take to help achieve this goal is even try my best even on assignments I don't like. Like the vision board....I will feel great to achieve this goal so that is why I am striving for it.

My long term goal which was personal was to be the first in my family to graduate from college and become a Registered Nurse. Some steps I have already taken towards this goal is researching scholarships I can apply for and finding colleges where I can get a full ride for having a high GPA. Some challenges will be keeping up with my grades when I get tired or burned out, usually when I get burned out I just respond by shutting down which I have to work on. One step I still need to finish is completing my high school career. I would feel great achieving these goals knowing I'm making a difference in my family by being the first one to graduate from a 4-year university with a Bachelors Degree.

My two smart goals were to get straight A's throughout freshman year and to travel around the world. I have already taken steps towards my goal of getting straight A's by monitoring my grades closely, turning all my work in on time, and putting forth my best effort. As for my goal of traveling around the world, I haven't worked towards this goal much since it's a long term goal that I'll better achieve as an adult. However, I do hope to travel to Japan with my parents sometime in the near future. One challenge that came up for my goal of getting straight A's was when I missed a day of school. Missing that one day had me falling behind and my grade in ELA dropped to a D. Thankfully, I turned my missing work in and got it back up to an A. A challenge that has come up in my goal of traveling the world is that I don't quite know where exactly I want to go and I have yet to research places I may want to travel to.

Some steps I need to take towards my goal of getting straight A's are being more focused in class and studying before tests. I lack in both of these areas, but if I improve those skills I'll have a better chance of achieving my goal. For my goal of traveling around the world, I'll need to take steps in picking where I want to go, learning about the place, planning the trip, and getting the funds to go there. I believe as of right now I don't need to adjust my plan or timeline as my goal of getting straight A's is fairly straightforward and my travel goal is long term and in the future. Accomplishing these goals will make me feel both exhilarated and very proud. If I get straight A's it will set the base for my GPA throughout high school and I will be proud of myself. Traveling around the world will be exhilarating since I will have new experiences and get to see new sights.

One of my 2 goals is to save up for a house. I have been saving up for a really long time.I have had troubles saving up without being able to have a job but I have found ways around it. I still need to get a workers permit and ask to do more favors for money in my neighborhood. I will feel like I have accomplished this when I can afford my dream house My other goal is to keep passing grades preferably a B or higher. I've been studying and trying to pay more attention in class. My algebra is pretty confusing witch has been challenging. I will know I have accomplished this goal by getting the final grades of A's or B's

My two smart goals are to keep my grades all a C or above and to be successful in the future. To maintain grades C and above, I will dedicate 1 hour of my time at home to do missing assignments and homework.

Procrastination is a huge problem for me, meaning I struggle with turning things in on time, leading to missing work and half-credited assignments. In the past years, from 6th-8th grade, it became a rare occasion to see my grades above a D.

I'm mentioning this because I now know the challenges I will face while trying to improve my grades, and I plan to respond to these challenges with a series of steps that are efficient and proven to help me.

The steps I will take to achieve decent grades are to dedicate an hour of my time at home to do missing assignments and homework. I'll prevent procrastination by leaving any potential distractions out of my working space for this time. I found that timers especially help me with procrastination because then I feel pressured and know I can't waste time doing anything other than my work.

I'll check my grades weekly to make sure I'm making progress. By improving my grades it will better my GPA, which from there will set a good base for the rest of my High school years.

My personal SMART goal is to have a set career path for my future, and my Academic SMART goal is to keep a constant A and B grading. Some steps I've taken for my personal goals are that I've done some research and I'm getting my options on which ones will fit me and my life style. For my academic goal, I've been taking time out of my day to do at least an hour of recapping what I done in my classes and worked on anything that needed to get done or I needed more understanding on. Some challenges that have come up are staying on track with what I need to do, because I get distracted to much so I go off topic and sometimes end up not working, whether is for career paths or just studying.

I need to start working more on my skills, like focusing on one thing instead of getting distracted easily with other things, so I need to be more focused. I need to start making changes to my home schedule so I can get more work done, especially like studying for my classes that I need extra help in. I feel like if I accomplished my personal goal, I would have all my study to revolve around that career, not like I wouldn't do my work to finish school, but I would try to work to get to that career. For my academic goal, if I were to accomplish this goal, It would help me get to my next grade, my school record, and make my family proud.

Vahreli M.

My academic SMART goal is to turn in work on time and for my personal goal is to learn how to regulate my emotions better. I haven't made any steps on my academic goal yet, but I only have taken a small step for my personal goal.

Challenges that have came up so far was being forgetful of checking my planner, being too busy having fun instead of asking for help on my work, and being too shy and embarrassed to ask for help on my missing work. I haven't responded for my academic challenges but I did with my personal one. A challenge I had to face with my personal goal was finding the time to let my feelings out and how. Last night I decided to let my emotions out during my shower then in my room, while people were asleep. When I was letting my emotions out I decided to keep myself distracted from not doing anything bad. So I decided to play a game called Cookie Run Kingdom and it really helped cheer me up and keep me distracted while letting my emotions out.

Steps I still need to take to achieve my goal is to check my planner, and ask for help when needed and repeatedly finding time to myself to let my emotions out to not explode with emotions whenever a minor occurrence happens. I'm not sure if I can achieve my personal goal by the end of this month but I'm sure I can accomplish my academic goal if I actually put motivation into it. I think I would feel amazing and feel like there wouldn't be so much weight on my shoulders when I accomplish my goals.
