What are some qualities beneficial in a business? (12) (DAY 1)

-Leadership
-Productivity
-Goal-Oriented
-Determination
-Communication
-Efficiency
-Collaboration
-Teamwork
-Risk-Takers
-Being Confident
-Committed
-Diversity (in-skills)
-Customer input

5 Skills Explained:
Leadership

Leadership is important within a team because a team would be lost without someone to follow. A leader is someone who leads everyone in the right direction they are there to help grow along the business. Leadership can be a general term in ways that it’s used in a business, for example leading the conversation in a meeting or leading the team as a CEO. Previously being in a leadership based class, I learned how to be a leader in a large group setting. I feel that it is a good thing to possess.

Productivity

One huge part of a business can be the rate of productivity. Working for long hours at a time can be hard, but there are ways that can increase the amount of work done in a specific amount of time. Productivity within a group can be hard to achieve but with a good work mindset, the group or business can set arrangements that get more work done and keep everyone happy. For example then I would work on a project, I would always think about the amount of time that is actually spent working rather than how I can get it done quicker but with the regular quality of my work.

Goal-Oriented

One other thing in a business is if they are goal oriented or not. Goals are needed to have a target that everyone is working toward. Whether it be a short term goal or a long term goal, they are always such a good way to get everyone on the same page. I believe that goals are a good way to keep everyone on track with their workload, as they set deadlines for each specific task. Another thing is that having such specific goals means that every person can work on their own specific job and get it to the highest quality as they are the ones working on it. I would say that I am goal oriented myself, as I always set deadlines for when I have to do things.

Communication

Being able to communicate in a large team always is difficult, but here are ways to work that out and have a great connection with each member of a business. Communication is such an important thing as it is needed to send important work and information between workers. There are many means of communication, either online or in person, they are still great ways of communication.

An entrepreneur is someone who is focused to make a business successful and to work on skills that helps a business grow. The entrepreneur of a group is a very important person because they are the ones who take on the major risks when it comes to decisions. Being an entrepreneur is seen as someone who creates the majority of the ideas, either towards marketing, finance, or networking. The entrepreneur is someone who knows all the information about the products, services, materials and the overall profit that a business is making. The entrepreneurs have targeted ideas when it comes to presenting their ideas to a possible collaborator or a buyer. Entrepreneurs are there to help and guide the business in a positive direction, with ways that promote themselves in a specified industry.

When it comes to business and financing, I always found an interesting aspect about it. Especially for the marketing side of things, the ways that products and services are shown to the public to get more customers. As I have never really gotten into detail with any type of business or finance before, I feel that I am just starting out. For myself that means that there are many more things I should know before becoming an entrepreneur. As I am learning more things in the Entrepreneurship course, I feel it making more sense as I learn more. I feel that my ability to work as an entrepreneur is increasing as l learn more. With certain things that I have done in the course, I feel that it is something that I could do after high school. I just need to get comfortable with certain work settings and the specific business tactics.

In a workplace diversity is something that can be very looked after in a workplace. I feel that diversity in skills is a strong thing to have because there are many ways that the experience can turn out to. More specifically I would like to learn more skills to be ready for any business job opportunity. I would need lessons, research and on-hands experience. With this goal I also want to figure out what I'm strongest at in the business industry. I want to do this to increase my overall knowledge for later in life. I feel that having more experience is better than having none. Ways that I can focus on my skills are to focus in chunks. As this goal is about learning, I am willing to take lessons, classes or even have tutors to further my knowledge. I would like to be able to do certain tasks that I am not able to do at this current point in time.

(paragraph)
When thinking about things that I can improve within my academic life and my personal life is my confidence. Showing confidence has always been a struggle for me since I was younger, and now I want to change that. So my initial goal is to learn to be more confident, in any aspect. When thinking of this goal I wanted it to be more general so that I can later figure out what I need to focus on. But specifically I would like to gain more confidence so that I am able to be more comfortable in a group or workplace setting. One main thing that I struggle with is being in large groups when having to do any type of presentation. For this specific goal there are things that I can measure upon, since there are certain tasks that I currently aren't comfortable doing, I can try them on the way to see if I have changed. I want to focus on how I change overtime with seeing how my personal health is maintained. Being confident isn't something that can change in an instant, it is something that I have to learn overtime. From being in high school , I am more confident than I was in grade 8. I have learned that this is an achievable thing more myself as I have already gone through it. I am setting this goal now to see how much I can grow within a set time period. Confidence can be gained in many ways, but it's different for everybody. I know this goal will take some time and I am ready for that change. A deadline for this seems unethical as it's something that can continue throughout my lifetime. But for certain levels of confidence that I can gain , I would say within the next 2-3 years that I should be able to be more comfortable and confident. So my reviewed goal is , within the next few years, I would like to gain more confidence to be more comfortable with a larger group. I would like to be able to do certain tasks that I am not able to do at this current point in time.

Definition: It is a business that is focused on bringing a specific business whether nonprofit or profit based company. They use special tactics to achieve those goals in the social, environmental, and cultural aspects as well.
Social Enterprises are important to the socially because they provide profit for the business, create social change and values. Lastly they are very important because they are collecting customers input.

Examples:
-Lush: Lush is a brand that is well known brand known for their different style of selling products. Their company is based around the ways that we can save waste just from packaging and the specific ingredients used. Lush is a company that strives to use what is best for the customer and for the environment. As I am quite familiar with this brand I know that they are all for giving back to others in need, specifically from on product called the "Charity Pot," they give the proceeds to those who need it. I would say that they are one of the companies who are leading in t he rich direction with beauty and skincare products to reduce waste and unnecessary production.

-Me To We: This whole ME To WE movement has been very significant to how I perceive things now, this whole movement is a non-profit who sells products just for the money to go back to people who need it. For example selling rafiki bracelets for the women in Africa to feed their family and have drinking water. The whole mission at Me To We is to give back and how to transform others lives with interest in the who are less fortunate. One huge thing about Me To We is that all the students who help participate in a positive way get rewarded tickets to a show all about giving back with celebrity guests, it's definitely a good way to reward students after their hard work.

-Good Eggs: This company being in the food industry they should be very conscientious of what they do and how they portray themselves to each other. This company focuses on the "growth and sustaining local food systems." Good Eggs has local delivery specifically in the Bay Area, LA, New Orleans, and Brooklyn, in those locations that re serving the customers with local ingredients. One other thing that the company focuses on is them being socially responsible and making environmentally optimal choices, whether in the office on in production.

CoHive.
3 P Structure Diagram (DAY 3)

For this diagram I chose this, where all the arrows and ideas are pointing in a circle at each other. I specifically chose this because I realized that all aspects of a business rely on each other. Businesses can be hard things to have in control sometimes, so I see how every part of the team can be such a huge advantage. When I was looking at some information about businesses, I saw how they start and first come together. By that I mean how they get to a successful and normal running business. Creating a business is a lot of work and people put so much time and work into them. Now into the three main components of a business, first, the people. The people make up a large chunk of a business, it can either mean the workers and employees or the customers. In my opinion I think this is the most important when it comes to a social enterprise as a whole, that's why I placed it at the top of the diagram. The people are who want to create a social change within communities. Change is what motivates the people to keep working and wanting to support a great cause. The next main component is the planet. The planet is home to all of us, and we need to be more cautious of our footprints and our overall impact as humans. Waste can be such a huge thing, but now these days there are many ways to reduce that problem. For this diagram, I thought of the specific ways that are being created that are more sustainable. An example would be reusable straws, or reusing old clothes and turning them into bags, examples like those are what I do at home myself. The last topic in the diagram is the profit, the profit is the outcomes of one’s social enterprise, it's like the “reward.” The profit is what comes out of all the hard work with the people who are helping create social change. Now for the profit there are two simple ways that I would choose to split it. The first way would be to donate a percentage of the savings, the other would be to put it back into the business, hence why the arrow is going back towards the people. This diagram really helped me focus to see the bigger picture of how the social enterprises work, and how they function as a cohesive group.

Cover Registered Charities (DAY 4)

Definition:
The cover registered charities are ones who have the same obligations of an organization. They are the ones that are allowed donations for further use in the business.

Difference Between Registered and Non-Registered Charities:
For the businesses who are registered and non registered charities, there are some differences. Being a registered charity means that you can work for instances like public foundations, charitable organizations, or even private foundations. The main way that they operate is due to the relief of poverty, advancement of education, advancement of religion and purposes which are beneficial to the community. One other thing that is significant to a registered charity is that they are able to issue official donation receipts for income taxes. On the other hand, there are the non registered charities, which are also called ‘Non-Profit Organizations.’ They mainly work for social welfare, society improvement, sports, other recreation, or anything except for profit. Compared to the registered charities, they are not able to issue donation receipts for income tax, as well as not being able to have any registration for income tax purposes. But when looking at a chart there we're a couple of things that I found similar in both scenarios, one being that they can't use their income to personally benefit the members of the organization. Another being that they are generally exempt from paying the income taxes.

Benefits/Consequences (Advantages vs. Disadvantages)
REGISTERED CHARITIES

ADVANTAGE:

Issue donation receipts

Exempt from paying income tax

Eligible to receive gifts from other registered charities

DISADVANTAGE:

Restrictions and requirements of what can be funded and carried out

No equity investment

Trusted workers aren't allowed to receive benefits from the charity

NON-REGISTERED CHARITIES (NPO)
ADVANTAGE:

Limited liability

Founders are kept separate from the organization

Motivation/Leadership contribution is treasured

DISADVANTAGE:

Can lose their tax status

Lack of funds and low pay rate

Competition for money as they rely on donations etc.

Why would a business choose to donate to a charitable cause?

Being a business there are many standards form the public and their own morals, donating can be dependent on who it's coming from. From my perspective I would say that businesses on one hand donate to charities to actually give back, and help others. The other people of businesses would donate just because of the reputation that they get from getting the public's attention.

PAGE 7 QUESTIONS:
1. My business model is one that is very involved with every aspect, the people, planet and lastly the profit. When thinking about donating to a charity, I think that giving back to others can be such a huge thing. With this amount my business would be giving the majority of the charity to help with their funding for other needed aspects of research. For my business, I would like to donate to charities that are local to my area. In Vancouver there are many charities that are very important, the three main charities would be the SPCA, the David Suzuki Foundation, and the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. These are foundations that I really support their cause and research.

2. The three charities I chose were the SPCA, the David Suzuki Foundation, and the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, these are foundations that support every aspect of business that I support. I am really there for supporting people and the environment, which is why I chose these specific charities. The first would be the SPCA, ever since I was young I have always been helping to donate to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, it was something that I was always interested in. The second one I chose was the David Suzuki Foundation, as I think the environment is such a huge factor of life. I chose it specifically because they try to spend the majority of their time to research information for the government, businesses and individuals about the environment. The last one I chose was the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, this charity has such a wonderful meaning behind it so I knew I had to include it. What they do in this charity is give the hope back to the kids who are in the hospitals by giving them extensive and inspiring experiences.

3.With this whole business journey I want to create a sustainable business and products. I want to create things based on the customer's wants and needs. My specific goals are to learn how to create my own products from start to finish, whether that may be from the designs to the packaging and marketing. I want to be able to do it independently.

“Our Foundation.” BC Children's Hospital Foundation, 23 Oct. 2020, www.bcchf.ca/our-foundation/.

When thinking about ideas towards creating a service or product, there were some ideas that I quickly thought of. My main idea was to help the people who are on the streets or in homeless shelters. That is my main concern when wanting to start my own enterprise, I want to have a positive impact with what I do and create. My target specifically is the younger kids who are less fortunate, as they shouldn't be dealing with something like that at such a young age. Although I will be focusing on the kids who are in need, I will still be able to help others including adults and the elderly. I will be creating essential needs like clothing specifically. I want to create clothes as a way to help with the upcoming struggles of Vancouver weather. Along with creating clothing, I will be creating bags to sell online, which would help generate more money to be able to buy the materials/clothing for helping the shelters. For the other side of my enterprise, I will be giving these products to the shelters for them to give out.

PROJECT ENTERPRISE IDEA MINDMAP

Having proper clothing is very important either if you live in areas with warm weather or cold weather. Proper clothes should be appropriate for the climate and environment you live in. For my specific idea, I would hope to be able to help those who are in need, specifically when it comes to the lack of clothes. Here in Vancouver the weather can be brutal especially during the colder months, I want to supply clothing that can help accompany essentials for those in need.

When thinking about creating this specific service there are things that need to be thought of first, I thought about the steps that will help me reach the goal of starting. The specific steps that I thought of we're finding out and scouting specific areas that my service could be located. Having a secure spot is key to have less chances of the items being taken. One other thing I thought of was how popular the area is, whether many people go in that area or is it a quiet spot. Another step is to communicate with the shelters I will be donating the clothing to, as that is also such a huge part of the process.

Materials wise there are many components that are needed to start up. The main thing is the donation boxes that will be placed around. This is the main way that is going to collect the clothing donations. Along with the donation bins, the next thing is the signs that will give information about the cause. These signs will be a way of helping the word spread in the community. The last component would come after there are donations to collect, large bins will be needed. Bins that are used for mailing purposes seems like a reliable thing to go to.

As for the tools and other means of support and help there are many ways that can be listed. One main aspect is the transportation between the donation boxes and the shelters. One's personal car can be used to transfer the donations, doing this more frequently will reduce the amount of trips in one day. With the help aspect, there is a high amount of support from the shelters where the donations are received. Another huge motivation is the support from the community, those who either donate with money or with clothing. It’s such a huge help either way.

Part A:

Marketing is such an important step and a great way to gain awareness for a very important cause, in this case is the lack of proper clothing for those in need. The ways that I am planning to use towards marketing this project is to create a website and also create some ads that will be projected in the area. I also feel that creating a social media account like Instagram will gain the interest of more of the youth, teenagers and young adults.

Part B:

The next portion of the marketing aspect is gaining the attraction of those who could help the cause. The ways of planning to set up this project is to have a modern look. Another thing that is important to myself is having enough information to understand and want to help with donating or buying. When making the design and mood board for marketing, I want to have a neutral but attractive color palette. From experience that is something that people look at first, it’s either the pictures or the photos attached. Overall I want a clean and sleek look to my business operation.

Part C:

The last part of marketing is more directed to my interaction with the customers and citizens. Professionalism is a key aspect to gain more interest and respect. As part of a society that is more based on technology, I would be using majority online sources to communicate with others. Although communication can be quite limited, I will always be understanding of what people have to say and being
respectful of others' time schedules. Either if the interaction is in person or through technology, I want to show myself
as a leader, helper and kind. I want to seem approachable and be able to give others the knowledge of the cause I am working for.

In general, what skills helped with the creation?
The process of my idea was always I think that I was doubting, but with the determination of my idea I really think that this is a business that I can work on. Creating something from start to finish can take a lot mentally and physically. From working on my business, I have had some obstacles with thinking of a productive way of continuing on. I got to the point where I am today by using problem solving. I would say problem solving has helped block out the ideas that weren't so great and thinking of new ones. Some other skills that I have noticed that I used we're creativity and confidence. Specifically for creativity, I have thought of ideas that would have never come to mind because of a mental block. Being creative with my tasks is something I enjoy to make the process more fun and exciting. The other skill that I mentioned was about confidence. Working on this project has really helped with my confidence, and wanton to project my ideas to others.

What actions helped that added to success?
Specific actions that I have done is taking the time to research on my own about certain ideas and thoughts. Creating a business is something that I didn't know very much about, but with all my research, I know more about the entrepreneurial world. I would say that researching was how I spent the majority of my time, as I wanted to get everything as accurate as I can. Even if I knew about something, I would take a look at it deeper, just to understand the idea even more. Another action that I would acknowledge is the feedback from my peers. Asking for feedback about my idea was something that I wanted to do in order to see if what I was doing was a good idea. Having feedback in general is something that is very common. Businesses would see what they could do to improve and what they should focus on more.

How will I use what I've learned in the future?
This whole learning process creating my own business is something that I will definitely remember for future use. But when creating my specific idea and service, there were things that helped in different ways. First would be thinking about others of their needs and wants in society. I thought about how businesses are running today and what they are directed towards. That’s how choosing my idea came about, I wanted to create something that could uplift the society and my local community. But in general, I would remember the process of creating something on my own, it was something that was completely new to me, but I would like to do it later on in life.

How do I feel my solution relates to real-world situations and problems?
When creating this idea and a business, I really thought of what people need. There are many problems in society, but one really just stuck in my mind. It was about the lack of clothing locally and all around the world. I feel my idea is a way that can help the community on a large scale, it has a good cause wherever it happens, even in wealthy areas. I feel that having a clothing donation bin is a great way for the community to also help.

What moments was I most proud of my efforts?
This whole business idea journey has helped myself with many qualities, from my personal ideas creatively and physically. This whole process has been something that helped me grow even though I haven't made anything tangible right now. The moments I am most proud of is researching more about certain causes and having others feedback about my idea. I knew that I wanted this idea to be something that can positively help the community and even world in some way. Overall just having the idea on paper to all it is now is such a huge accomplishment in itself, I am proud of my efforts for each specific part of the business.
