Hill: And the sled itself seemed to be placed at the top of a long mound that was from the very land where he was. Even as he thought the word ''mound," his new mind told him hill. Then the sled, with Jonas on it, began to move through the snowfall, and he understood instantly that now he was going downhill.
Runners: Moving through the substance called snow on the vehicle called sled, which propelled itself on what he now knew without doubt to be runners.
Sunshine : This time the feelings came faster. This time the hands started to feel warm on his body. They moistened a little. The warmth spread, extending throughout his body He could feel it through his clothed parts, a pleasant, all-over sensation; and when he licked his lips this time, the air was hot and heavy.

- There was a place where memories once lived, when they're weren't any Receivers and everyone had access to them, according to the Giver that was bad
- The Giver tells Jonas that his previous instructors knew Nothing, that everything was wrong. Jonas though that was incredibly rude.

- This time the snow wasn't soft and thick but is was hard and covered with ice
- But the runners, this time, couldn't slice through the frozen ice as they had on the other, snow covered hill. Jonas pulled at the rope, trying to steer, but the steepness and speed took control from his hands and he was no longer enjoying the ride
- Jonas hit a bump and was violently thrown into the air. He fell with his leg twisted under him, and could hear the crack of bone. His face scraped along the edges of ice. All he could feel was fear 
- Jonas started to feel pain. He could feel a sharp pain in his leg. He tried to move but he couldn't. The pain grew. Sobbing, he turned his head and vomited onto the frozen snow.
- He was in the Annex room again, on the bed. His face was wet with tears. He rocked his own body back and
forth, breathing deeply to release the remembered pain. He sat, and looked at his own leg that wasn't broken The brutal slice of pain was gone. But his leg ached horribly. He asked the Giver for a relic of pain but he said no.
- His parents asked if he wanted medication because he seemed sick but he remembered the rules, that he couldn't have medication related to work, he realized they would never be able to feel the pain that he had felt and he felt lonely because of that
- The Giver was telling Jonas that before he was born, a lot of citizens petitioned the Committee of Elders. That they wanted to increase the rate of births. That they wanted each Birthmother to be assigned four births instead of three, so that the population would increase and there would be more Laborers available.
- The Giver told Jonas to remember that day when the plane flew over the community and how he was scared. The Giver said that they were prepared to shoot it down but he told them not to because of his past memories 
- Jonas asked the Giver why can't everyone have the pain that he has and the Giver said that they didn't want them to be pained and burdened like he was, that's why him and Jonas are very honoured
- In the community when twins are born they release one according to which one is lighter.
- Jonas was holding Gabriel and suddenly started to think of the memory of a  a bright, breezy day on a clear turquoise lake, and above him the white sail of the boat billowing as he moved along in the brisk wind, then the memory suddenly started to fade away

- Jonas heard the voice of a boy next to him he said " Water ". Jonas looked at the boy and realized he had yellow hair and fresh blood. Jonas noticed the colours
- One of Jonas's arms was immobilized with pain, and he could see through his own torn sleeve something that looked like ragged flesh and splintery bone. He tried his remaining arm and felt it move.
- Jonas saw a metal container and reached his arm over to it and placed it to the boy's mouth 
- From the distance, Jonas could hear the thud of cannons. Overwhelmed by pain, he lay there in the fearsome stench for hours, listened to the men and animals die, and learned
what warfare meant. 
- Finally, when he knew that he could bear it no longer and would welcome death himself, he opened his eyes and was once again on the bed. - He wanted his childhood back, but he couldn't chose, so he went back to the Annex room
- The Giver was gentle with him for the days following the memory of war. By now Jonas had experienced countless bits of happiness, things he had never known of before. He had seen a birthday pary, with one child singled out and celebrated on his day, so that now he understood the joy of being an individual, special and unique and proud. He had visited museums and seen paintings filled with all the colors he could now recognize and name.
- Jonas had a memory of a family Christmas, after it was over The Giver asked him what happened and he said he felt a feeling of warmth of Family and that there were people there that were called grandparents. But he didn't know what they were celebrating 
- Jonas started to wonder and then asked the Giver who were the parents of his parents 
- The Giver told Jonas that they have the names in The Hall Of Open Records
- Jonas couldn't describe the feeling that he was feeling during the memory so the Giver told him that he was feeling Love and Jonas liked the feeling of Love
- When Jonas got home he asked his mother and father if they loved him. His dad laughed and said "Jonas. You, of all people. Precision of language, please!"
- His mom told him that Love is a very generalized word, so meaningless that it's become almost obsolete. Jonas stared at them and knew tat what he felt in the memory wasn't meaningless at all. His mother said to use better words like "Do you enjoy me or "'Do you take pride in my accomplishments?' And then his parents say how it is inappropriate to use a word like Love and they ask if he understands, he says he yes and realizes that that was his first lie to his parents

- Then, in the middle of the night before the Ceremony, Jonas would leave . This was the most dangerous part, because it was a violation for any citizen not on official business to leave at night. The Giver tells Jonas that he doesn't know what to do if he gets caught, then Jonas replies saying that he won't, but if he does he would say that they probably wouldn't ask
- Jonas says that he would leave a note on his bed for his parents saying that he went for a ride along the River, but would be back in time for the ceremony. But when he doesn't show up, they would be forced to go without him and would think that he would be with Asher of the Giver. Then everyone would finally notice that he's not there
- The Giver told Jonas that when his work was finished, he would want to be with his daughter

-  There were many moments where Jonas felt pure moments of happiness like when he went to look at wildflowers, to enjoy the throaty warble of a new bird nearby, or merely to watch the way wind shifted the leaves in the trees.
- Since they had left the cultivated fields it was impossible for them to find food, he tried very hard to get fish and he needed to use some of Gabe's blanket to make a fish net. After many tries Jonas got his hands on two fish. He took a sharp rock to cut them and then ate some berries with it.
- At night Gabriel would sleep beside him while Jonas thought about how hungry he was
- Jonas gave the thought that there was a choice of him to stay with the community, where he wouldn't be starving of food, only of things like feeling, colour and love. He knew that that wasn't a choice because Gabriel wouldn't even be alive to have a life there like he would if they had stayed
- It became hard for Jonas to ride the bike because he was so weak
- For the first time Jonas had seen rain, he had only seen it in the memories but this time he was cold and wet and Gabriel had started crying for the first time since their journey had started. Jonas knew exactly why because Gabe was hungry, cold and extremely weak
- He cried because he was afraid that he could not save Gabe. - Then Jonas started to feel happy he began to remember moment with his family and his friends, and the Giver. He could feel joy flooding through him. He told Gabe they would almost be there feeling certain about it. He remembered the place as a memory of his own
- With his final strength Jonas found a sled at the top of the hill, he got on it and brought Gabe close. The hill was full of soft, powdery snow and the knew that there wasn't any ice 
- Jonas felt himself losing consciousness but brought himself to sit up. He forced his eyes open as they went down the hill  and all at once he could see lights, and he recognized them now. He knew they were shining through the windows of rooms, that they were the red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love.
- Suddenly Jonas heard music and a feeling of certainty and joy that there were people waiting for him and Gabe. He heard the voices of people singing. Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. Without memory you can't learn from your mistakes and do better in life. Memory is important because you have the moments where your life has changed or even the simplest memories like in the Giver when everyone didn't know what colour was. 

Some memories in the Giver that shows the importance of the memory is when The Giver gives Jonas all those memories like the memories of happiness the a memory of Jonas on a sled going down a hill . The memories of sunshine and heat. Or the painful memories like the feeling of a sunburn. The memory of the rainbow was an important memory because that was when Jonas first saw colour. The extremely painful memories like war were the ones that Jonas didn't like.
