The HR Manager, SunLing give me a short brief and bring me to look around the office surrounding and environment. After that, she bring me to meet my internship direct manager, Ariel and I state at the department which is Business Development Department (BD Department). 

 

The manager, Ariel have a short meeting with new intern after I sort out my working desk. She give me the new BD internship job scope reference and start to work into the job scope. 

 

The things to do on today are: 

i) understand the company which is the introduction of company: include Travelog Website, Facebook and what is company objective and goals.

ii) clearly understand the BD department guidelines.

My BD department manager, Ariel give me a short brief about how to start work in the department. She said in the 1^st month, the new intern will be more focusing on local products and inform to BD if there’s any potential merchants.

 

First of all: 

i) learn to explore new products from internet. (especially on social media) to identify new leads and potential new markets. 

ii) do market research or what’s in the trend now. Such as: local people preference. 

iii) search more potential merchant or other new activities for local products. 

 

I start to find the new potential merchant after the manager show me how to find the new merchant. I also refer to the All Product List at the Travelog admin website so that my new merchant or activities are not similar with the existing merchants.

After lunch, the manager reply me some of the merchant that I could contact and send the Travelog Sales Kits Proposal to them. 

 

New things for today: 

i) call the potential merchant (hotel/resort) that approve by the manager. Find their contact number through website or facebook. Give them a call to tell them about the proposal’s purpose and last but not least ask for their sales and marketing’s email address. 

ii) once get the email, send the Travelog Business Proposal (Sales Kits) to the hotel or resort. 

iii) follow up all potential merchant that approve by manager. 

iv) during the phone call, the manager also show me the way to get merchant attention and avoid misunderstanding between our company and merchant.

After lunch, the Co-Founder of Travelog ask me help him to do the Kuala Selangor Day Trip Itinerary. He share the related website link to me so that i could complete a special itinerary.

I continue to yesterday task which is Kuala Selangor Itinerary and I add on some of the destination image to make it interesting. I sent to the Co-Founder, Kelvin Liu after I complete the itinerary. I using Google Drive to upload all related Kuala Selangor folder and picture and send to the Co-Founder. I complete my first itinerary in Travelog. 

 

After lunch, my BD manager bring me together to an appointment which is meeting with her new merchant. It was a new event that located in Malacca which is [The Magic Library]-A World Class Show. We are meeting with the event manager, Casly Khoo to get the special rate to do promotion in Travelog website (Travelog.com). She is very nice and we get a good collaboration with she give us the net price and we mark up the selling price by our own to sell the entrance ticket. 

Information needed from new merchant:

i) Merchant Info: merchant name, registration number, address, category, contact person and email. 

ii) Merchant Bank Detail: Bank name, account name and account number.

 

The above information are need to pass to our Editor and Operation department to proceed the promotion and booking.

The Co-Founder give me another task which are do 5 more itinerary that request by his China customer. All are day tour itinerary which are Heritage of Malacca, Ipoh Day Tour, Bukit Tinggi (French Village & Japanese Village), Batu Caves & Genting Highland and Cameron Highland Day Tour. The day tour are request maximum 10 hours. I proceed with complete the Day Trip Itinerary. 

 

I also received an email from Vivanta by Taj at Rebak Island Langkawi last week. He already received our proposal and request us to meet up them to discuss further. The appointment will be 14 FEB but due to my manager fix schedule and I make the appointment on tomorrow and pass this message to my manager. We will attend the appointment together tomorrow.

I call to the Director Vivanta by Taj Rebak Island Resort, Mr Andy to cancel our appointment. Mr Andy is very nice and postpone our appointment to the second week or March. The date and time will confirm again with him. 

 

Around 4pm, another merchant from Laguna Redang Travel & Tours walk in to visit my manager. Her purpose is to discuss the Flash Sales with my manager. My BD Manger bring me along to the meeting and show me the way how she talk with the merchant.

Before lunch, my BD department have an urgent meeting that regarding to update all merchant in hand to manager. Due to I only focus in Langkawi, so that my merchants are all from Langkawi Resort.

Ø Request only 12% commission but Travelog couldn’t make it. 

Ø After discuss with my manager, Travelog minimum can make it 15% and send this information to the resort through email. 

2. Vivanta by Taj Rebak Island Resort

Ø Get an appointment on 12 March 2018, 1130am. 

3. Holiday Villa Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi

After that, I continue to follow up the merchant that may have potential to join us. I also give call to ask about invitation the resort or hotel to join us.

Today, my manager have a short meeting with us that regarding to stop contact all merchant in hand. It is because our new website just launch our and still have many things will be change as as the new merchant commission and payment method. My manager ask us continue to do some research about potential merchant that maybe join us but hold to contact. We nee to wait until the next meeting to confirm all the things just continue to contact. 

 

I also trying to edit the Sales Kits which is the proposal that have to send to the merchant. New website launch means we also need to have new point in our proposal.

This week will be a bit slow because of our website still renewing and the operation department still facing some booking problem such as miss receive the booking from customer. The IT department are solving the problem.

 

Today, my task is focus on searching more potential merchant. Waiting the manager approve to proceed everything. But today was very busy cause my manager has no time to meeting with BD department. Therefore, I come out my own opinion to make a draft about the short form of Travelog proposal. Hope that the merchant don’t have to go through our long proposal on their first time.

I still follow up to search some new merchant and today I focus Johor area. Meanwhile, I received an email from Camar Langkawi Resort that regarding to get the list of hotel that already sign up with our company before their sign up with us. This case is maybe the merchant still not confidence with us. But, I will follow up this case that send some our partner details to them to give more confidence with our company. 

 

First of all, I try to call the merchant, Ms Eliza to explain more. Unfortunately, she didn’t pick up my phone. Therefore, I drop her an email to explain more to her.

It is because the ticket pricing is from Japan and China. So, I need to change the price to Malaysia Ringgit (RM) based on the currency. Every package need to compare the price between the product’s official website and others travel agency. Ensure that, the price of Travelog are not higher than others travel agency or same price with others travel agency. 

 

After done the 4 products, I upload to google drive that share by Mr Kelvin Liu. So that he could check the task that I had done. 

 

After work, I having dinner together with all colleague in Korean Restaurant at SS2.

The meeting went by 3 persons which are me, my manager and another colleague. We meet Mr Andy at his office on time. 

 

During the meeting, we approach Mr Andy try our new market place proposal. Meaning that, Mr Andy just register as our merchant through our website and design their product and package by their own. Mr Andy feel interest after listen to our explanation. But he haven’t decided to join us. He request we drop them a proposal after go back. 

 

The Proposal must consists by below things: 

1. Market Place Proposal 

2. Facebook campaign proposal 

3. Google search Vivanta - Travelog. 

 

After lunch, I call Mr Andy to confirm everything and ask them register to be our merchant and manage their product by their own.

Other than that, I also compare the price between Jtr China company, Klook, KKday, chuguoqu and 11street. These are the agent that provide the package rate to us for sell. Therefore, I need to compare which agent rate and package are suitable to sell at our website. 

 

After I done, I share all the document to google drive and share to Mr Kelvin. So that he can go through if I did any mistake, he can ask me to correct.

For Intern: 

Distribute TWO types of flyer during MATTA Fair:

1. Distribute flyer to potential merchant and explain more about Marketplace to the new merchant to attract their interest. 

2. Distribute flyer to customer that interest with our travel package. 

 

For BD Manager and staff:

1. Explain more to potential merchant that interest to join our new Marketplace. 

2. Persuade merchant to join our Marketplace. 

3. Explain the benefit get after join our Marketplace.

4. Tell the merchant about the commission will take by Travelog. 

 

For Operation Manager and staff:

1. Sit inside to do booking when customer want to reserve the package on the spot.

2. Assist customer when they not understand about our package.

3. Approach our Travel package to customer.

Today, my manager bring some guys to set up our booft and others preparation. I am in office to follow up some merchant that are requiring to become our new merchant. Other than that, I also doing some preparation for tomorrow MATTA Fair such as:

1. How to approach our Marketplace for new merchant.

2. Clearly understand about our Marketplace.

3. Clearly understand about our commission and payment method.

Today, I follow up yesterday merchant that ask me to call them back or send them a “Hi” message. I do it to every merchant that request from me. I haven’t send our new marketplace sales kit to them because there are some mistake to correct and approve by manager. 

 

I whatsapp them a ‘Hi’ message and answer some question that ask by them.

My manager said even she swish me to Operation Department but I need to follow up also Business Department new merchant. 

 

Therefore, today I am in the new working environment. I received the job scope in the early morning which is Admin Ticketing Bookings (teach by senior, Fyn).
