Now you know its right to tell the teacher but as a friend you don't want to snitch on him/her. Now if you did snitch on them then if they were your friend they should forgive you. Yet as a friend we often feel it is better not to snitch on your friend. Now if your friend vandalises or steals something you don't have to tell the cops but perhaps tell the person to turn themselves in. MC

Conscience is an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior. I think it is okay to follow a different path to the one my conscience advises when you're trying to protect someone (like your family or friends) from getting in trouble or trying to stop them from doing something that there not supposed to do. An example is, your friend does something bad like steals something from a store. Your conscience is telling you that you have to tell someone what your friend did but you know that they are your friend and you don't want to get them in trouble so you don't tell anyone about it. Another example is, your sibling wants to sneak out of the house to a party and they tell you to not tell their parents. You want to be nice to your sibling and not tell your parents but you want to keep your sibling away from something they are not supposed to do and do something foolish at the party. Your conscience is telling you to respect your sibling's decisions but you want to protect them so you tell your parents. Overall, I think it is okay to follow a different path to the one my conscience advises when you're trying to protect someone from getting in trouble or trying to stop them from doing something bad.
R.B

that is all true. our conscience tells us what is right and wrong. sometimes we may not want to do the right thing because it will affect a relationship. but sometimes you have to do the right thing even though something is at stake, you could possibly even make the situation better by doing the right thing. or for example bullying if you are a by stander you are not saying anything to help the situation and you are letting someone get hurt and not following your conscience because you do not want to get involved. sometimes it is ok to go another path that your conscience advises but you should listen to your conscience because you can not only help your self but another person as well.
A.A

Sometimes your conscience will tell you something that maybe you don't want to do but if you follow that you will always help yourself and other people. Do what is best for you not other people. It's like if your friend is going to jump off a cliff are you gonna follow that or will your conscience tell you the right thing to do?

I think it's okay to follow a different path in only a few situations. Sometimes the right thing can hurt people a lot, and you have to make the decision. Let's say your going to a party with your family and your mother asks if she looks nice, then you have to make a hard choice, either follow your conscience or say she looks nice. Another situation could be when a friend asks if you want to come over, you know you have homework due the next day, but this friend doesn't have anybody else and is new to the area. In this case you could either tell him "no, I need to do other things" or arrange a date and say "sorry not today, but how about Saturday?". These are a few examples of when to lie in a good way. MN

Why would a Christian follow their conscience as oppose to the Church teaching or the Bible?

The Word of God is a light for our path. We must understand it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. This is how moral conscience is formed. A moral decision is deciding what is the right or wrong thing to do. Some Christians believe that if they feel a bit of conscience, they should follow it. Why would a Christian follow their conscience as oppose to the Church teaching or the Bible?

1. God speaks to them, the conscience is like God's voice telling you the difference between right from wrong.

2. It is in the teaching of the church to follow your conscience as a voice of God.

3. St Paul and St Thomas said that conscience should be the final moral process

4. The teachings of the Church and Bible are not directly from God but conscience is.

"Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live Honourably in every way." -Hebrews 13:18
R.B
