Although a couple years old, I feel the ideas that Ms. Michalec shares are pertinent today. I would love to hear your input on this.
First of all, I love how she says that advocacy is a shared responsibility. It truly is!
This quote also really stuck out to me: "Consequently, we must commit to being more visible and more vocal by sharing stories from our classrooms. Only we can share an honest vision of our students’ needs." This being visible and vocal does not require us to be rude. Simply sharing our experiences, good and bad, with those around us will help them truly understand what we do and they will want to help. Knowledge leads to understanding; if they don't know they won't understand.
