1) Worm are decomposers because they eat waste and the remains of other living things to get energy. 2) Producers use energy from the sunlight to make their own food. Producers are living things. Producers engage in photosynthesis. Consumers get energy by eating other living things. Unlike producers, they cannot make their own food. A consumer is also a living thing just like a producer. Decomposers get energy by breaking down dead plants or animals. They are also living things just like producers and consumers. Decomposers break down the material into tiny pieces that become part of the soil. 3) All three of these work together in an ecosystem. An example of this could start with an apple tree. An apple tree is a producers, and sometimes the apples fall off the tree. A small animal like a mouse may come along to eat the apple, and then a larger animal like an owl may come along to eat the mouse. Both the mouse and the owl are consumers. The decomposers like a worm may come along and eat the apple core the mouse left behind, or a dung beetle may come along and eat the owls poop. Decomposers keep waste from piling up in the ecosystem. All three work together to make the ecosystem work smoothly.
