Thesis #89 – “Since the pope seeks the salvation of souls rather than money by his indulgences, why does he suspend the indulgences and pardons previously granted when they have equal efficacy?”

In this thesis he is combating the claim that these indulgences are for the greater good and not for the popes bank account. The rich and the higher class people profit the most from these indulgences because they are the few that can keep paying them. If all it takes is money to be forgiven no matter the sin then the rich will sin even more. This is why martin luther asks rhetorically why the pope is charing people when he could just bless them. Why allow people to may for their sins in material then on spirit? If the pope is truly saving people why does he have to get paid to do so? If the pope is a pious person then why does he have to charge people? These indulgences do not cater to all the people aka working class and poor when god supposedly cares about everyone

It is certainly possible that when the money clinks in the bottom of the chest avarice and greed increase; but when the church offers intercession, all depends on the will of God. People want more and more money as they find it, but once they find god, they dont want more of it, they actually go in the opposite direction and not focus on that topic anymore. Some of the time people would take the time and worship god and actually want more and more of him. But for those that dont, just dont have appreciate god as money. MLK wants people to respect god as they respect money, and believe that they should want to worship god more and more everyday other than push him away. MLK believes once you find god your greed should increase and want to attract him more and more.

If someone is on their deathbed, they will probably worry about ascending to heaven and how they need to have done no sin to be allowed to enter. Some people during their life used indulgences to "erase" their sins for them to ascend to heaven but an indulgence could not promise them to enter heaven. At the end of the day though the church really can't promise that they will go to heaven even if they live a life free of sin because nobody really knows if there really is a thing such as heaven or the afterlife.
