Here in the United States, we are a free country. Along with being a free country, we are allowed to make our own decisions. While no one can make you do something you are against, you should always look at the strong medical evidence on what you claim to be against. According to Harvard International Review staff writer Michaela Nesson in her academic journal, “Today, immunization prevents two to three million deaths annually” (Nesson, 2016). Nesson is saying this because she wants everyone, from all over the world, the realize that this is a very high number, that people should not dismiss. Throughout the entirety of human existence, we have been dealing with several contagious and potentially dangerous diseases. Through science, we have found vaccines that can help fight major diseases, and eradicated several different diseases. However, as time goes on, people are now starting to refuse vaccinating their kids, for personal and unproven reasons. If this pattern of people opting out of immunizations continues, it puts a real threat on the health of people all over the world.

Many teens are pushed to the max with all of the tasks thrown at them each day. Without the proper amounts of sleep, the tasks become harder and harder for teens to complete. According to the author, Kristen Luise, in the article she states “Eight to ten hours of sleep each night is what a teen should have to be healthy. But
fulfilling this requirement is almost impossible when students have to be awake at 6, ready to repeat their busy day all over again,” (Luise, 2013, pg. 21). She is saying that schools start too early in the morning for teens to be “fulfilling” their requirements each and every day. Without “eight to ten hours” a night, teens are not able to function properly during the day and are more likely to disengage in other activities due to lack of sleep. Many schools start too early, making it hard for teens to focus. Without enough sleep, teens are overwhelmed, shut down, and keep to themselves.

Many people state that Paralympians get an advantage over able bodied athletes in competitive sports, including track and field. The main cause of concern in this would be the type of prosthetic being used called the Flex-Foot Cheetah. According to Karina Hamalainen, "Double leg amputees burn pretty much the same amount of calories and has about the same endurance at their top speed as able bodied runners. The bent part of the blade stores energy while the Achilles tendon does the same for a natural leg, and both release the energy when pushing off of the ground. The amputees use their gluteus maximus and quadriceps to move their prosthetic legs, and able bodied runners use the same muscles to move their legs." This research states that amputees with blade prosthetics use the exact same amount of energy as able bodied competitors, as well as, using the exact same muscles to move their legs. This shows that amputees do not have an advantage in races or sports in general over able bodied athletes. It shows that just because amputees are missing some limbs such as a leg or even both legs they are not at a different level athletically in sports.

Twitter is our first social media platform we will discuss " Twitter, a microblogging platform with 320 million global users in 2015, is used by 23 % of all adult internet users in the United States" (Conway Hurs & Mikal, 2016). These numbers show just how many people use and scroll through twitter. We are subject to disease outbreaks, influenza monitoring, public health, recognizing temporal variability in lifestyle and health behaviors, and emerging tobacco products like electronic cigarettes and hookah. Conway, Hurts & Mikal conduct a study on how social media plays a role in depression and suicide.
(next Paragraph will talk about the study)

School’s early start times often result in students to not get enough sleep. It is important for high school students to get enough sleep in order to perform properly. With the lack of sleep, it causes students to not perform as well and to not be able to focus. In Crowley’s, Acebo’s, Carskadon’s article Schools Start Too Early, They talk about the biological reason of why high school students need more sleep. In their article they say, “During puberty, adolescents become sleepy later at night and need to sleep later in the morning as a result in shifts in biological rhythms. These biological changes are often combined with poor sleep habits (including irregular bedtimes and the presence of electronics in the bedroom). During the school week, school start times are the main reason students wake up when they do. The combination of late bedtimes and early school start times results in most adolescents not getting enough sleep.” (Crowley, Acebo, Carskadon, 2018). Because of high school student’s shift in biological rhythms, students need more sleep with a later school start time to help their sleeping habits.

Standardized testing is a test that requires all of the students to answer all of the same questions. It is scored in a “standard” or “consistent” manner, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or groups of students. These tests are mainly designed to compare the intelligence of one student to another. It is also designed to tell if a student is prepared enough to attend college. Tests like these are not an accurate representation on a students learning abilities. Albert Einstein once said, “everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that its stupid.” What that quote is saying is, that you can’t judge someone’s learning abilities on one test to prove their intelligence. Some test takers have test taking anxiety, ADHD, or other conflicts that can affect how they score. I agree with what Einstein is saying because, there are multiple forms of intelligence.

People may make the decision to have an abortion if they do not have financial stability and require government assistance. The Congressional Budget Office discovered, while creating an anti-abortion bill, that the federal deficit would increase by $225 million over nine years due to an increase in the use of Medicare. Stating, “since many women seeking late-term abortions are economically disadvantaged, their children are likely to require welfare assistance.” (The Congressional Budget Office). This shows that some people do not have money to look after a baby and will need government assistance in order to afford to raise the child. It’s in the best interest of the government to look after its citizens, however if someone doesn’t have the financial stability to look after a child they should not have one and let taxpayers pay for it.

College tuition has gone up by a large amount over the past six years. This causes lower to middle class students to stray away from the most expensive colleges, leading to a lower rate of attendance. According to the article, reviewing free college tuition, “Between 2011-2012 and 2016-2017, tuition and fees increased by 9 percent at four-year public universities, by 11 percent at two-year public colleges, and by 13 percent at private nonprofit four-year institutions, after adjusting for inflation.” This study shows how much tuition and fees have increased over just a short time. This portrays that tuition has gone up significantly and will continue year after year. As costs increase, the number of students will decrease in years to come.

Over the past years, college tuition has skyrocketed more than you can imagine. This has lead to many students in debt and discouraging college graduation rates. Many people believe that students who are not ready for college, should not bother spending money on it. According to the author, Isabel Sawhill, in her article she states, “Perhaps it’s time to make financial aid a little more conditional on a student’s readiness to go to college.” (Sawhill, 2014). She is saying that we, as students, should consider if we are really ready for college. If we are not ready to attend, then money is being wasted. I agree with this because it's saves a lot of money. Kids could be going into a lot of debt just because they aren’t ready for college. Becoming a drop-out because you can’t handle the stress and cost, can be greatly avoided.

Some may say that today’s technology is helping our minds get information faster. However, technology may be killing our ways to originality and creativity. Newsweek reported on the findings of a recent study that indicated that while intelligence scores have steadily risen, creativity scores have been declining since 1990. “The necessity of human ingenuity is undisputed. A recent IBM poll of 1,500 CEOs identified creativity as the No. 1 “leadership competency” of the future. Yet it’s not just about sustaining our nation’s economic growth. All around us are matters of national and international importance that are crying out for creative solutions…” (Connors, 2013) This quote tells us that technology is damaging our ways to think for ourselves without technology.

Whether you work in the education system or not, we all can agree that teachers make a huge impact on the lives of children, and are not adequately compensated for their devotion to the work that they do. Many teachers miss out on time with their own families, because they are doing extra work for their students and the classroom. Matt Barnum states, “studies show that teacher pay has fallen relative to other professions in the last month.” He is saying that no matter what the situation, schools should be forced to pay their teachers a more reasonable amount. It is completely unacceptable that someone who inspires and mentors our country’s children and is a huge part of their lives, is paid at such a small amount.

The Constitution's Second Amendment provides that, ‘A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.’” (Cornell, 2014) This quote tells us the second amendment is our right to own guns. Naloxone, a more generic version a narcan, is available over the counter to anyone who may want it. This should not be happening. According to Time magazine, ”An easier naloxone shot, available without a prescription for untrained people, works much like the EpiPen, which treats allergic reactions. Sold as Evzio, it is an auto-injection pre-filled with naloxone that anyone can inject into the outer thigh. The device comes with verbal instructions to guide users.”(Park 2017)This shows us that anyone and everyone can get their hands on narcan versions, and the do not have to have any training. I disagree with this happening because there is no reason for a person on drugs to plan to plan to overdose, or even think about doing to much to here they would need to have this ready on hand.

Even if automakers decide to recall or not, if someone got hurt from a defect from a airbag or a accident where the gas tank explodes this could of been avoided. If automakers took more time and care to check there product before selling it. Fatalities and injuries could be avoided or even prevented. David Treviño states in his article “The cars tended to catch fire in rear-end collisions because the gas tank was just six inches from the nonsturdy bumpers” (Treviño, 2018). This author states that not only the gas tank would catch fire, but the bumper wasn't properly fasten. Auto dealers like Ford should've checked the quality of their product. They should of also ran the vehicle through multiple and vigorous test. Ford should of took more care and consideration into their product because it has claimed lives and harmed others. If you get in a car wreck and it isn't your fault cause something fails and the automakers knew. This problem shouldn’t be your fault it should be up to the automakers to repair and compensate you for your injuries. They designed these faulty vehicles they are responsible if somebody gets hurt using their product.
