- Read rhyming word books to your child daily. Be sure to stop at each set of rhyming words and emphasize that they are rhyming words because they sound the same at the end. Then you can move on to having students identify the rhyming words on their own. Then, more advanced students can produce rhyming words. For example, you can say "tell me a word that rhymes with 'bat.'
- Read nursery rhymes and stop to point out each set of rhyming words.
- Put out three picture cards. Two of which rhyme and one that does not. Ask your child which word does not sound the same. For example, give the words "cat, mop, and bat." If they cannot tell, explain that "cat" and "bat" sound the same because they end in the -at sound but "mop" does not because it ends in the -op sound.

https://blog.allaboutlearningpress.com/rhyming-picture-books/

Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it and understand its meaning. It relies on two, interconnected abilities: word reading (being able to decode the symbols on the page) and language comprehension (being able to understand the meaning of the words and sentences). Good comprehension is vital to the reader understanding and interpreting what it is they are reading. This allows them to engage with and learn from text and actually enjoy what they are learning. Skilled reading is done with good language comprehension.

Phonics is the process of teaching children to correlate an individual sound with its corresponding letter or letter group. The more easily they can hear, identify, and manipulate sounds, the easier it will be for them to decode new words when they are ready to read. It is important to give students multiple opportunities to practice what they know.

In pre-k and kindergarten, children are introduced to new and unknown words daily through exploration and reading. The word meanings are reinforced through conversation, when these words are used in a meaningful way. Vocabulary words consist of word that we use in reading and writing. Vocabulary is important to understand because one cannot understand a text if they cannot understand most words that they are reading/ that are being read to them. Students learn the meaning of words through everyday conversation indirectly with oral and written language, others are learned carefully designed instruction.

Reading fluency is the ability to read a text easily. Reading fluency actually has four parts: accuracy, speed, expression and comprehension. Each part is important, but no single part is enough on its own. A fluent reader is able to coordinate all four aspects of fluency. Reading the same texts or nursery rhymes at home with your child is important. It allows them to become familiar.
