An orangutan’s life and all of our lives start with our moms. A female oragutan is between 11 and 18 when it is time to have her first child. The baby is born 8 and a half months after a successful mating and about 3 and a half pounds. For the first few months they never leave their mother and get around by riding her back. Then at two years old they are encouraged to explore around by themselfs. Throughout their early life they learn the crucial lessons and everything that needs to be known from their mom. Then they leave their mom at the age of 8
