  • Restart the computer 
  • Unhook all SCSI devices and restart the computer
  • Restart with the shift button down [turn off extensions.
  • Remove all extensions and add them back one at a time - restart the computer after each addition, if using System 7.5 or higher ,use Extensions Manger

  • start with Disk Tool and do a clean reinstall of the system
  • runDisk First Aid, MacCheck, or Norton's Disk Doctor
  • Start with Disk Tool and the hard drive iron might show up
