Family may not place emphasis on education because it's important to the family survival that everybody works to bring money in. 
This can impact a person in later life as they may be unable to read and write, may only be able to get unskilled jobs with low wages... possibility the cycle will continue with their own family.

A privileged family may also place emphasis on education because they can afford to, therefore children are encouraged to attend college / university to gain further qualifications - masters etc. 
Having additional qualifications & expertise in a particular area may be beneficial to gaining high income jobs...possibility the cycle will continue with their own family.
