         <description><![CDATA[<div>The American education system is a perfect example of an unequal, and structurally racist complex. Standardized testing in America is a perfect example of a sect of the education system I can highlight to demonstrate this point. American schools use standardized tests that are commonly used to narrow an individual's academic intelligence down into a number. The implantation of these tests in public schools all over the country Students from families of lower-income class, out-groups in societies, and students of color have suffered the most from these high-stake tests in America’s public schools because of the lack of authentic assessments and lack of resources.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A Negative equity overview, like the one observed at Champlain Elementary, occurs when the value of an asset(s) falls below the recommended level of applicacy towards a directed group or groups in the public school. Assets and resources that are used in schools to benefit the academic success of students are crucial variables that also need to be considered when analyzing the massive separation between social groups at Champlain and the achievement gap regarding standardized test scores. At Champlain, underserved students are falling behind students their age around Vermont on average. Most of these underserved students representing the subjacent ends of the massive achievement gap spectrum at Champlain are coming from minority communities or are less financially equipped.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I liked the sense of community at Champlain. Faculty did a great job at including everyone in the social setting without bias. To this day, I still know and remember many of my peers from elementary school, as we all funneled into the same public middle school and high school. Even though there is a clear disparity among the underserved community at Champlain Elementary when you look at the equity overview rating completed by Greatschools.com, when I reflect back on my personal experience and try to consider the possible inequities in the classroom, nothing sticks out to me. This doesn't mean that the inequities among asset distribution to the underserved social groups at Champlain does not exist, in fact in my opinion, this is why structural inequalities and issues like structural racism are so dangerous. The danger being; the lack of blatant evidence to prove that there is a distinct difference between racial, or social groups, leading to the problem percolating into other fields of social inequalities that negatively impact the educational experience of underserved students. At Champlain, we received a 2/10 rating on the equity overview in the year 2019. 35% of the school population is considered low-income, with 31% of the total population of the student body being non-white. It is common to see noticable differences regarding achievement gaps in American schools, especially among the African American and Hispanic societies. The reason for this being the role standardized tests have evolved overtime to become “gatekeepers” of an individual's intelligence, commonly discouraging hardworking peers to feel like their high academic standards within education are attainable. I was lucky enough to benefit from white privilege while I completed these tests, meaning that the scores did not experience adverse, structural inequality from receiving bad scores. The underserved community in American public schools tend to be from similar socioeconomic or racial groups. I would like to fully understand what this life of educational inequality is like and how it affected my friends educational development through the Burlington public school system.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>As I grew up in the Burlington public school community, I had an additional perspective of the local school systems because my mother is a teacher in the Burlington public schools. I asked her if she had any opinions on any possible plans, so I combined the ideas from myself and narrowed down the most essential action plans to utilize the best assets in the community to attempt to diminish the achievement gap at Champlain and surrounding schools. Many minority individuals in the Burlington community that attend public schools are refugees and can experience the challenge of language barriers. This is essential to understand when analyzing the achievement gap and standardized testing. The superintendent has arguably the most important because they are responsible for the attainment of short- and long-term financial and operational goals for the school system.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Finding ways to increase these available assets to all students will help strengthen community ties, and positively affect the students and their ability to succeed despite their circumstances. I think the several articles and community mapping module helped me deepen my understanding of asset based community development. It is important to focus on the specific trait of leveraging your community's unique characteristics to help and provide all the necessary sources for developing students. If this methodology is successfully institutionalized into societies, the relationship between the education systems and local businesses /resources can be seen as symbiotic. I think students can recognize when their community is involved with your school because the businesses want to make their support and presence known to the students. In my elementary, middle, and high school, I remember all of my school's business ties and partnerships because the banners were hung in the gymnasiums and cafeterias. Even though I didn't personally didn't access the support those businesses were trying to provide, I knew of their existence. This reflection proves that even at a young age I was aware of the relationships between my local ecological model.</div>]]></description>
