I believe a disadvantage of for-profit organizations could be that the program leader receives direction from the owner since this type of organization is privately owned. This owner is the one who determines the organizational structure of the program which includes the process and procedures used for decision making and filing of information. Some examples of organizational structure would include parental involvement, regulations at various levels and sponsors. I believe this would be considered a disadvantage because it seems as though there isn't much team collaboration in the decision being made for the program since the program leader and other staff members are taking direction solely from the owner of the for-profit program.

Shae

Non-profit organizations start with non-share capital that comes from grants, loans or donations. Thus, one notable disadvantage is the time and money it takes into securing the means to start a non-profit organization. These organizations must also recruit a team of volunteers that are willing to dedicate ample time and effort into starting the organization. Compared to for-profit businesses where profits are distributed to shareholders (people who have invested their own money or capital into the company), a non-profit organization does not allow any individual involved to receive profit. In fact, any surplus of money at the end of the year is returned to the organization. This can make funding extremely difficult, and may pose a challenge to finding committed volunteers that are willing to help achieve the organization’s mission.

I believe that one advantage to non-profit organizations is that there are no shareholder financial motives behind the business decisions made by the organization. All decisions are made for the benefit of the organization they are supporting. Non-profit childcare tends to have a strong mission to provide high-quality care and they put all their resources back into their programs while commercial centers have the goal to also make a profit. After learning more about non-profit organizations I also found that these employees are often highly motivated by intrinsic rewards rather than pay which creates a stronger passion for the organization's purpose. In addition, I believe another advantage is that non-profit organizations often have significant tax advantages compared to for-profit organizations.
- Andrea Vandewetering

One advantage of non-profit organizations is that they are run by dedicated volunteers who put their time, effort, and energy into the development and growth of the organization instead of their money. Those who are working for these organizations are therefore dedicated people who are putting in their time because they genuinely want to. In terms of money, non-profit organizations have the intention of breaking even, and any extra money that is made is invested into the program. This is another advantage as since the organization is not profiting, it ensures that it is being run for the right reasons. Lastly, decisions within non-profit organizations are made by multiple individuals like families, program leaders, and educators. While this process is more complex, I still view it as advantageous as the board of directors who are making the decisions could be more knowledgeable about the broader changes occurring within the community.

-Logan Fagner

An advantages of a for- profit organization is that it makes money for its owners. For profit companies can earn money from selling their service. Owners of the organization also have more control over business decisions and are basically their own bosses.

Am advantage of a for-profit business/organization is that the assets are very liquid. So even if a business is unsuccessful, they can still sell the space and all of the equipment that the business obtained. For-profit organizations also have more control over the business in general and investment decisions.
- Summer Steadman
