1. We will be collaborating with a partner for "Part 1" of the Frankenbaby project.
2. Our partner will be providing our imaginary offspring with one half of its genes.
3. Organisms can reproduce, either sexually or asexually.

4. By reproducing, organisms can transfer their genetic information to their offspring.

5. Francis Crick and James Watson were the first scientists to discover the structure of DNA.

6. Genes determine the characteristics of organisms and their proteins.

7. Proteomics is the study of proteins and how they determine an organism’s traits and behaviors.

8. The Frankenbaby project is broken up into two major parts.

9. “Part 1” of the Frankenbaby project includes a training program, where Ms. Pastula will train us on how to analyze an organism’s genetic background, compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction, the inheritance and variation of traits, prediction of the phenotype and genotype of an offspring, and prediction of patterns for inheritance using the patterns of dominance.

10. We will be completing several activities, such as comparing and contrasting sexual and asexual production, performing crosses using punnett squares, performing an experiment to create our offspring (including recording the experiment’s data and writing a lab report regarding it), and creating a drawing on what our offspring’s appearance would be based on our partner and ourselves’ genes.

11. Once we complete “Part 1” of the Frankenbaby Project, we will transition into “Part 2” of the project.

12. “Part 2” of the Frankenbaby Project revolves around the skills we as a class have learned in “Part 1” in order to complete “Part 2”.

13. “Part 2” of the Frankenbaby Project will involve creating a model to describe why mutations may affect proteins and their results and debating genetic engineering.

14. Sexual means to present romantic activity, while asexual means to present non-romantic activity.

15. Mutations can affect an offspring’s appearance or traits.

16. Genetic engineering is controversial; it’s mainly used for modifying a baby’s traits or looks in a positive way.
