1) Poverty took place during the final stages of capitalism
2) The economy was weak and people weren't able to work as labor

Paragraph 2: War destroys human labor
1) Powers care more about war than the population
2) Separation of higher and lower classes are purposefully increased
3) In order to survive, the population gave power to an elite group

Paragraph 3: War is destruction in an acceptable way
1) It matters how the party feels/responds to war
2) It doesn't matter how the war is going, as long as it's taking place
3) It's believed that Oceania is the undisputed master

Paragraph 4: The Inner Party believes the conquest is a coming of faith
1) Power comes by gradually acquiring more territory and building up power or discovering a powerful weapon
2) Useful arts (like science) are either standing still or moving backwards
3) The two party aims are to conquer the world and to eliminate all independent thoughts

Paragraph 5: None of the superstates gain power over the other
1) They all have weaponry like atomic bombs
2) They're all building up their weaponry
3) Helicopters and bombing planes are also used in warfare

1) They all have the same social structure and economy
2) Oceania has Ingsoc, Eurasia had Neo-Bolsherism, and Eastasia has a Chinese name which translates to Death-worship. 
3) They all want world conquest but accept the fact that it's not going to happen. 

Paragraph 2: War and History
1) War has effects that can't be changed
2) War allows for a history of the past which cannot be forgotten 
3) War is serious because if defeated, independence would be lost. 

Paragraph 3: When war is continuous it isn't as dangerous 
1) The military defense is no longer needed
2) War is used to keep subjects in check and rulers are given absolute power. 
3) The need for physical fighting is unnecessary, but the conflicts still persist. 

Paragraph 4: War doesn't stand for anything 
1) It's there to maintain ideas and authority in an area. 
2) War is an internal affair to keep structure 
3) War serves as a distraction for all classes of society. 

Paragraph 5: Society structure doesn't change
1) Three stages to society: High, middle and low. The "high" wish to stay in their current position, the "middle" want to move up in society, and the "low" believe they are too low in society to gain importance.
2) The middle try to take the high's power by putting the low on their side. When they achieve power they treat the low the same way as before.
3) The lowest point of view experiences no change or achievements. 

Paragraph 6: History is a cyclical process 
1) Starts with a new movement promoting unfreedom and inequality (Ingsoc). 
2) They would arrest progress and freeze history when wanted.

-All beliefs, habits, tastes, emotions, and mental attitudes are shaped to sustain the Mystique of the party
- Since there is no military of commercial rivalry, popular education is declining
-Party members are not in any way allowed to have opinions that deviate from the party ideals

Main Idea: Party members are being watched at all times
Key Details:
- Party are watch at all and any time
- Any suspicion of free thinking is punishable
- There are no laws but rebelling is punishable by death

Main Idea: Party members have no control over their thoughts or feelings
Key Details:
-Party members must live in continuous hatred of the party's enemy
-Members must be able to believe anything the party tells them
-Party members must be completely devoted to the Party

Main Idea: Rewriting the past is essential for the Party.
Key Details:
-Party members tolerate present conditions because they have nothing to compare it to
-Any evidence of the party being wrong must be changed
-The Party makes sure the past is forgotten

Main Idea: Revising history is vital to the mental training of Party members.
