This northern renaissance painting is a beautiful example of renaissance portraiture. Van Eyck uses vivid colors and deep symbolism to engross the viewer in a meaningful moment. The dog at the feet of the subjects is a symbol of fidelity, while the shoes on the ground indicate that the bride is barefoot, and therefore on sacred ground. Texture and depth are important features in this painting. The texture in the dogs fur and in the subject's clothing make them appear almost touchable. I can imagine reaching out to pet the dog. The way the figures are placed and the mirror far back in the painting give the image depth.

Painted during the high renaissance, Venus and Adonis is an example of a renaissance painting depicting myths and legends. These paintings were common during the high renaissance. What's interesting about this painting is that it's actually one of over 30 Venus and Adonis paintings by Titian and his apprentices. His studio produced many copies of this painting over the years, and you can see the different versions of these paintings in Museums all over the world. The one pictured above is the Prado version. the color in this painting is rich and beautiful. Titian uses more pastel colors to accentuate the softness of the rays of sunlight and Venus's body. Painted during the baroque era, Cuyp's "A Herdsman With Five Cows by a River" depicts exactly what the name implies. What I love about this painting in particular is the drama caused by the lighting and juxtaposition of the colors that Cuyp chose to use. Fragonard may have died in poverty, but his paintings live on in museums and collections everywhere. The Swing was painted during the rococo era, and it has the light and airy feeling that is typical of many rococo paintings. The colors in The Swing are light and airy and give the painting a calm and ethereal vibe. Despite depicting a man's final moments, this painting has surprisingly bright, cheery and vivid colors. Deep reds and vivid greens dominate the viewers focus and stand out even more against a muted background. the texture in this painting is most notable in the clothing that the figures are wearing.
