His idea was that all movements or revolutions that took place in history were mainly motivated by man's ability or disability to make ends meet. According to him, society was composed of strata- the class system, in which one class of people were low in number and owned the means of production in an economy(bourgeosies). The other, more widely populated class was that of the prolitariats, or the working class, which operated the means of production, and also consumed them. The capitalists would try to raise profits above the wages of the working class, and in retaliation, the latter would rise to replace them. Thus, this cycle goes on.
