The family group we represent is usually two-home families navigating divorce, specifically families with elementary-aged children. These families often experience major shifts in routines, communication patterns, and emotional dynamics. Divorce is not a single event but a long term transition that can involve changes in housing, finances, parenting schedules, and relationships with extended family.
Children may experience confusion, loyalty conflicts, anxiety, or academic disruptions. At the same time, many families demonstrate remarkable resilience drawing on cultural values, extended family networks, community support, and strong parent child bonds to create stability across two homes.

As families with loved ones with support needs enter new stages of adulthood and care, the journey can feel overwhelming. This site is my ED 283 project and focuses on one single mom and her two children, including a dependent adult child (DAC).

My goal is to share basic information, real experiences, and practical ideas that can help families, teachers, and other professionals work together. I focus on three big areas: respite care, communication with schools, and the transition from school to adult services.

ED 283 focuses on collaboration and communication strategies for building partnerships with culturally and linguistically diverse families, including families of learners with disabilities. Students will explore family system theories, models of family engagement, and the changes in today's society influencing family-school dynamics. The differences in the value and belief systems of families, schools, and communities, and their impact on students' learning and the family-professional partnership will be examined. The laws and rights of families, and advocacy for all families will also be addressed.
