<title>Explore: What do scientists do? APK: Thinking Like a Scientist Task cards with a partner. Students will answer general science questions to get them thinking about what scientists might do. Explore:1. Show the children a stylized picture of a scientist holding a flask filled with a colorful liquid. Ask: “Who is this person?” “What do you think this person likes to do?” “How do you know?” “What else can you tell me about this person?” Chart all of their responses. 2. If the students did not identify the person in the picture as a scientist, introduce them to the concept and generate a list of words that come to mind when they think about science and scientists. 3. Read “What is A Scientist” by Barbara Lehn, highlighting all of the words and actions that describe what science is and what scientists do. 4. Give children a sheet of paper and encourage them to draw a picture of a scientist. 5. Help children to realize that anyone can be a scientist! While they are drawing their pictures ask questions about what their scientist likes to do or what she/he is doing in the picture. Ask: “Do you like to do that as well?”</title>
