There are three things that would happen once a bill is sent to the president.
1. The president can sign the bill and it would become a law.
2. The president can not sign it, veto, and send it back to the U.S. House of Representatives with a list of reasons telling why it was vetoed. If 2/3 of Representatives and Senate vote that it should become a law then they can override the veto.
3. The president can do nothing, it is called a pocket veto, because if congress is in session than it becomes a law, after 10 days, and if congress is not in session than it doesn't become a law.
