You know, when we think about protest music, Punk Rock has always been at the forefront. Bands like Green Day and Sum 41 have been particularly vocal, especially during recent political events. These aren't just random protests - they're part of a long tradition of punk bands challenging Republican policies, going all the way back to their criticism of George W. Bush's administration.

The big question I want to explore today is: How has American Punk Rock contributed to political activism against the Republican party?

I've brought five really interesting documents to share with you:

• First, we have lyrics from Sum 41's "March of the Dogs" from 2007, where they take aim at Bush's policies

• Then, there's the iconic "American Idiot" album cover by Green Day from 2004, which interestingly is still being used in protests today

• I also have an article about Sum 41's song "45" and their response to political changes

• There's a powerful image of Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day with a Trump mask

• And finally, Sum 41's "Still Waiting" music video, which criticizes the Iraq War

I'll be organizing my talk into three main parts:

• At first, I'll take you through how the punk movement started

• Next, I'll explore the ongoing clash between punk bands and Republican policies

• And finally, we'll look at how punk activism goes beyond just music

Let me start with the origins of punk. The movement kicked off in the '70s but really exploded in the '80s during Ronald Reagan's presidency. His policies, especially those favoring the wealthy and expanding military spending, really fired up the punk community. We had legendary bands like The Ramones from America, and The Sex Pistols and The Clash from Britain leading the charge. It's fascinating how punk became more than just music - it created this whole 'DIY' culture that's still influencing people today.

Would you like me to begin showing you the documents as we go through each part?

While some rap music glorifies violence, some artists take a critical stance and seek to raise awareness of the dangers of gang life. By denouncing gang conflicts and their tragic consequences, these rappers want to make young people aware of this reality and, in some cases, take a different path.

• Kendrick Lamar, an artist who has often addressed the issue of gang violence in his lyrics. In his sound XXX. (2017), taken from the album DAMN, he evokes the brutality of the American streets and criticises the vicious circle of settling scores. He highlights the devastating impact of gangs on African-American communities, while pointing on the finger at the political and social responsibilities that fuel this violence. Although Kendrick Lamar grow up in a neighbourhood in Compton where there are a big presence of Bloods and Crips, he has chosen not to belong or glorify this world, prefering a more committed and introspective approach.

Other rappers like J.Cole or Nipsey Hussle, uses their influences for advocate the peace between gangs.

While some rappers denounce gang violence, the music industry has understood that this imagery sells. Violence, gang lifestyles and the aesthetics that go with them have become powerful marketing tools, enabling labels to create an aura around their artists and attract an audience hungry for authenticity.

• drill music, a genre of rap marked by aggression and violent lyrics. Originally born in Chicago with artists like Chief Keef or Lil Durk, it then explosed in New York with rappers like Fivio Foreign. Propelled by his affiliation with Pop Smoke and the New York drill scene, he was quickly signed by major labels who saw in him an opportunity to capitalise on this trend. Labels are quick to highlight the gang aesthetic in music videos, album covers and overall marketing, creating a fascination with this world.

• The codes of rap, and more recently of drill and trap, have profoundly influenced the behaviour of young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Language, clothing (dress style, colours associated with gangs, specific brands), as well as the aggressive attitude that is widely taken up by those who identify with these artists.

• the rivalry between NBA YoungBoy and Lil Durk, which has had consequences far beyond music. These two rappers, respectively from Louisiana and Chicago, are involved in stories that go beyond the simple musical clash. Their opposition reflects a broader conflict between their respective affiliations: Lil Durk is associated with O'Block and the Black Disciples, while NBA YoungBoy is linked to the Red Baton gangs.

This rivalry had a direct impact on gang culture in the United States, felling tensions between their fans and their loved ones. Insults in their song, provocations on social networks and even acts of violence in real life from this opposition. Many young admirers take sides for one or the other and adopt the codes of the gangs without necessarily understanding the real dangers.

• Chief Keef, the emblematic figure of Chicago drill music. His track « I Don't Like (2012) » is a perfect example of this trend, with lyrics describing gang rivalries and street mentality.

Over time, the rap of the 90s, popularised by artists such as N.W.A and Tupac, evolved into new genres: drill and trap. These styles modernised the speech of street rap while amplifying its impact of darker productions and an even greater glorification of criminal life.

• New York drill, for example, explosed with artists like Pop Smokey thank to his sounds marked by an energetic flow and referencies of clash gang.

• trap, which is more melodic, maintain a strong link with gang culture. Young Thug, for example, is associated with the Bloods, an influential gang in the United States, indeed he alludes to many times to this gang in his sounds.

Rap is a style of music that emerged in afro-american ghettos in the 1970’s in Bronx and is used as a way of expression. It combines rythmic poetry and musical accompanichement. Indeed, this movement emerges in a context marked by segregation, poverty and violence, giving young people a way of expression. DJs and MCs play a important role in its development, especially with emblematic figures such as DJ Kool hero or Grandmaster Flash. So we may wonder to what extent rap fed the gang culture in the U.S?

Take David Tennant's recent return as the fourteenth Doctor - yes, the same actor who played the tenth Doctor years ago. During his new run, the show has really expanded its representation of LGBTQ+ characters. For instance, Donna Noble's daughter is now a transgender character, and if I can refer to document 4 here... [you would quote your specific example].

This kind of representation is actually something both Steven Moffat, one of the show's previous showrunners, and Ncuti Gatwa, our new Doctor, feel strongly about. In fact, in these documents [gesture to documents 2 and 3], they both explain why these characters are so crucial for the show. However, as we can see in document 4, not all fans share this view. Some viewers have had different reactions to these changes.

What's particularly interesting here is how the show is trying to balance staying true to its roots while reflecting our modern society.

What's really interesting is how these casting choices reflect changing times. For the first 40 years, the Doctor was always played by older white men. Even after the show came back in 2005 with younger actors, it took until 2018 to get our first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. And now we have Ncuti Gatwa making history as the first black Doctor.

If you look at this picture here [gesture to the image], you can see how the show actually started embracing diversity much earlier through the Doctor's companions. For example... [you would add your specific example here].

The show's content has changed a lot too. When it started, Doctor Who was meant to be educational, mixing sci-fi adventures with historical lessons. But since its comeback in 2005, it's tackled more modern issues. Now you'll see episodes dealing with current topics like climate change, political conflicts, and social issues. The show's really grown up with its audience.

Today I'm excited to talk about a fascinating TV show that you might know - Doctor Who - and how it represents changes in society.

You know, Doctor Who isn't just any TV series. It's this amazing British sci-fi show that's been running since 1963 - that's over 60 years! The main character, the Doctor, is this fascinating alien who looks human and travels through time and space in a blue police box called the TARDIS. Pretty cool, right?

What I find really interesting is how the show has managed to stay relevant for so long. It's constantly evolved with the times, using its unique storylines to explore important events in history and changes in British society. This got me thinking about my main question for today: How has Doctor Who managed to stay meaningful and relevant to modern audiences?

To help answer this, I've brought four interesting documents with me:

I'll be focusing on two main points in my presentation: First, I'll look at how the characters and stories in Doctor Who have changed over time. Then, I'll explore what people are saying about the show's new direction - both the positive and negative reactions.

AI in the USA has rapidly evolved in recent years, transforming industries, society, and even our daily interactions. In the United States, this technological revolution has advanced across many aspects of life, leading us to ask:

The origins of rap can be traced back to the early 1970s in the Bronx, a borough of New York City marked by severe economic hardship, racial segregation, and widespread poverty. At the time, many African American and Latino communities were marginalized, living in underfunded neighborhoods with limited opportunities. This environment of social exclusion and disenfranchisement created a fertile ground for creative expression. Young people, particularly from low-income areas, sought alternative outlets to communicate their frustrations, experiences, and aspirations. Inspired by the growing hip-hop culture, which also included graffiti and breakdancing, the art form of rapping emerged as a way for individuals to articulate their identity, tell their stories, and claim their space in a world that often ignored them. The DJ played a crucial role in these early days, using turntables to loop breaks in funk and soul music, while the MC (master of ceremonies) would engage in improvisational rhyming over the beats. This creative outlet was not only a form of entertainment, but also a powerful tool for social commentary, giving voice to a generation of youth who felt excluded from mainstream American society. The roots of rap in the Bronx are thus deeply connected to the need for community, self-expression, and resistance against systemic inequalities.

You know, when we look back over the last hundred years, we can see how much has changed for women. Take the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, for example - it was a huge milestone for women's reproductive rights in America. But here's the thing - while we've made a lot of progress, there's still work to be done.

The main question I want to explore today is: How were women's safety and rights impacted during Trump's presidency?

I've brought several documents with me that I think really help us understand this issue. [This would be where you'd introduce your specific documents]

What makes this topic particularly interesting is how these different issues are all connected. You can't really talk about one without touching on the others. Before I dive deeper, would you like to take a look at the documents I'll be referring to?

• Ensure the equality of English and French in all institutions of the Government and Parliament of Canada;

• Support the development of official language minority communities;

• Foster the full recognition and use of both official languages in Canadian society; and

• Clarify the powers and obligations of federal institutions with respect to official languages.

More specifically, the Act guarantees:

• The equality of English and French in parliamentary proceedings and in the enactment of laws and other legislative documents;

• The right of every Canadian to be heard and understood by a judge in the official language of their choice before federal courts;

• The right of every Canadian to communicate with and receive services from every federal institution in the official language of their choice;

• The right to work in the federal public service in the official language of one’s choice in certain regions; and

• That the Government is committed to ensuring that Anglophones and Francophones have equal opportunities to pursue careers in federal institutions, and that the composition of the federal public service reflects the linguistic make-up of the Canadian population.

Finally, Part VII of the Act describes the Government’s commitment to:

1. support the development and enhance the vitality of official language minority communities; and

2. foster the full recognition and use of both English and French in Canadian society.

More specifically, the Act establishes:

• The obligation of every federal institution to take positive measures to implement this commitment;

• That, as part of this commitment, the Minister of Canadian Heritage takes measures to, among other things:

  • Directly support the development and vitality of linguistic communities;

  • Encourage and assist the provinces and territories to foster community development by offering provincial and municipal services in both languages;

  • Help the provinces and territories meet their constitutional obligation to provide official language minority communities with an education system in their language;

  • Encourage the public to better accept and appreciate English and French; and

  • Encourage and support the learning of English and French as a second language, including encouraging and assisting provinces and territories to offer school programs to this effect.

In the name of language rights, the federal government is trampling on the career prospects of thousands of public service employees. Why? Because they have the misfortune of not speaking advanced French.

Discriminatory though it may be, that’s the new direction at the Treasury Board of Canada, which will be requiring all new supervisors in bilingual regions (including Ottawa, where much of the public service is based) to speak official languages at a “superior” level in June 2025. Currently, supervisors in bilingual zones must speak their second official language at an “intermediate” level.

Effectively, it’s a lockdown on the career advancement of anglophones.

But that’s how it goes in Canada, where the Official Languages Act has been weaponized by the current federal government. Largely used as a shield in the past, largely to protect the country’s French-speaking language minority, the law is being wielded as a sword, justifying the retraction of opportunities from people who comprise the majority of the population.

It’s not fair, and that’s the point — like so many other “equity” measures taken by the Liberals.

For context, English speakers make up 76 per cent of the Canadian population, according to Statistics Canada. They’re also largely unilingual: outside Quebec, just over seven per cent of this group also speaks French. French speakers inside Quebec, in contrast, are roughly 40 per cent bilingual. The Treasury Board’s new rules therefore take a lot more opportunities away from English speakers around the country than they do French speakers.

Which, for this government, makes this kind of language favouritism an entirely legitimate, moral move. Monolingual Anglophones make up the majority of the population and receive their language from the historic hegemon of Canada: Britain. They’re privileged — even if they never grew up with generous exposure to French, even if they’re conducting themselves in an official language as they’re perfectly entitled to do under the Charter. Any rule that deprives this group from entering and ascending the state bureaucracy is a feature, not a bug; it’s systemic discrimination in the literal sense.

The current model of official bilingualism continues to play an important role in the relationship between English and French communities, as well as in Canada’s national identity.

Today I'd like to talk about something really fascinating about Canada - how the country manages being officially bilingual, with both English and French as official languages.

It's not just about having two languages - it's a huge part of what makes Canada, well, Canada. This didn't just happen by chance - it's the result of centuries of history, starting with French and British colonization. And when you add in all the immigration and cultural diversity Canada has today, it gets even more interesting.

So, the main question I want to explore with you today is: How do Canadians deal with the challenges of having two official languages in their country?

In a society where mental health is often overlooked or undervalued, metal and rock bands have brought significant attention to this crucial issue. From Des Moines, Iowa, in the United States to Moscow in Russia, metal bands have encouraged their fans to consider their mental health and provided support for improvement.

This leads us to ask: To what extent have American rock and metal bands helped improve their fans' mental health?

I have carefully selected six documents to support my presentation:

1. An infographic illustrating the benefits of listening to music

2. A second infographic showing the correlation between musical preferences and self-reported mental health across different fan communities

3. A press article from ICP (a French association) featuring testimonials from rock and metal fans about how this music has improved their mental health

Through these materials, we will explore how rock and metal music serves as a tool for mental health awareness and improvement.

Let's start by examining how song lyrics are treatments for mental health. Many rock and metal bands use there song lyrics to send messages to their fans or simply to explain their problems. The song "Crawling" by Linkin Park is a great example for that. In the first verse, the singer Chester Bennington explains his feelings. He says " There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface ". This part of the lyrics raised in fans head a feeling of belonging. In fact, with this, fans could finally see that they're not alone in their misery.

The spot Martha Lavinia is threatened by the construction of a salmon farm which will be located a few meters south of the spot.

With a 22-cage project, there are close to 1 million salmon that could soon be found in these waters. The location of this salmon farm will have the direct consequence for surfers of blocking for approximately 5 kilometers the southerly swells. In addition, with so many individuals of salmon in a restricted space all the fauna and flora are threatened.

Others spots like this Kirra spot could disappear with a construction of a marina. A marina project has once again threatened this legendary wave. Despite an initial mobilization against this project last year, it seems that it has been relaunched for good.

Today I want to talk about how streaming platforms have transformed the Hollywood film industry.

You know, it's remarkable how much the entertainment world has changed in the last two decades. These days, instead of heading to movie theaters, many of us turn to services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ to watch our favorite films and shows. This shift hasn't just changed how we watch movies - it's completely transformed how they're made and distributed.

The main question I'll be exploring today is: How has the rise of streaming platforms transformed Hollywood?

I've organized my presentation into three main parts.

First, I'll look at the emergence of streaming platforms and why they've become so successful.

Then, I'll analyze how this has affected traditional movie theaters.

- Each year, more and more students are struggling with debts and since 2014 the national student debt has increased a lot in America, reaching last summer 1,7 trillion dollars. Paying the players, even just a little, would help them a lot getting out of their debts once they leave college.

- They could pay the college student the same way they pay pro players.

- More than 1 Billion dollars made thanks to college football.

- Sportmans are often paid deppending on their skills and the amount that their team will win thanks to them.

- They are barely all adults, the age gap goes from 18 to 23 yo wich mean that they can legally get paid.

Today I want to talk about something that's been causing a lot of debate in college sports - whether NCAA football players should be paid.

You know, it's pretty interesting when you think about it. The NCAA football league has been around for over 150 years, creating jobs and opportunities for lots of people. Some have even become quite wealthy through college football. But here's the thing - while coaches can earn millions of dollars, the players themselves don't get paid at all. And these are the people actually out there on the field!

So the big question I want to explore today is: How could paying NCAA football players help them build their future?

I've brought three documents that I think really help us understand this issue:

• First, I have this fascinating infographic from Statista showing just how many people watch NCAA football championships on TV

• Then, I have a ranking that shows the huge financial gap between the richest and poorest teams in the league

• And finally, I've got this map that shows where each team's fans are located across the country

TikTok is the most popular social media platform in the world, particularly in the United States, with over 170 million users as of January 2025, according to Euronews. While American TikTok content influences the entire world, the government fears that ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, might be sharing American users' private data with the Chinese government. This leads us to ask: How has TikTok influenced American culture and society, especially in terms of trends, politics, and identity?
