The AVID initiative complements our district commitments with high quality instructional materials, specifically following WICOR with engaging and interactive strategies. 2. The strategies that overlap with my content needs include the critical reading, since Carnegie Learning requires students to read critically and think critically. ***The district can utilize item like the word garden to teach unknown vocabulary words and practice/reinforce speaking words; which directly aligns with the work of Dr. Calderon and Three Rivers. Using the WICOR strategies and marking the text works well for marking the text and utilizing inquiry while working collaboratively as we do in science labs. This directly related to short constructed response.

2. What intentional and tangible resources/strategies do you see overlap with your content/campus needs?
WICOR is helpful as the district is emphasizing reading and writing across all contents. Stemscopes has a lot of these engaging strategies already embedded, however, using these strategies, in combination with SEL, will allow students to be more in tune with their feelings of self as well as learn to advocate for themselves throughout the learning process.

It makes total sense to me that a confident and safe student will focus so much more on the content without distraction. With STAAR 2.0 around the corner, content knowledge will be tested like never before and our students must be able to fluidly demonstrate their knowledge.
