Today, I learned how to distinguish and differentiate Philippine opera, ballet, and musical play.

In the Philippines, opera draws from Western influences but often incorporates local stories, themes, and music. It's a theatrical form combining music, singing, orchestral accompaniment, and dramatic performances.

Ballet in the Philippines follows the classical style but may also incorporate elements of folk dances, cultural themes, and storytelling unique to the country. It involves highly technical and stylized dance movements set to music.

A musical play in the Philippines combines acting, singing, and dancing, telling a story through dialogue, music, and choreography. These productions often blend local culture with international influences, creating a fusion of traditional and modern elements.

• My conclusions on the topics we covered today are the distinctions among Philippine Opera, Philippine Ballet, and Philippine Musical Play. I've seen that the ways in which things are carried out vary. Whereas the Philippine Ballet employs dance to play out stories, the Philippine Opera concentrates on using song to tell stories. Now, about the Philippine Musical Play, I've seen that it portrays or tells a story using both singing and dancing.

-Dungo, Amaru M.

My takeaway is knowing the difference between the 3 topics that we discuss. Ballet, Opera, and Musical play serve different types of purposes. They show culture, and emotion while sharing stories.

PH Opera has more intense and emotional acting, they are also into more vocalization with dramatic orchestra. While in Musical Play as I observed they are more into production and acting, for me Musical play is more entertaining than the Opera since they show more funny jokes and stuff unlike Opera they are more into seriousness. While in PH ballet they express and tell the story using their steps and expression.

I have learned that Philippine Opera also includes art wherein they act, sing, and dance while Philippine Ballet expresses their interpretation through synchronized dancing to deliver the message of the novels, folktales, and stories they are pertaining to. Musical play is just like an opera but its melody is way more manageable for average singers. I have also learn what are the different contributions of Philippine Opera and Philippine Ballet in the Spaniards Colonization which help Filipinos to express their emotions into setting us free.
