Malcolm Little, also known as Malcolm X or, his Muslim name, el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, lived a life full of hope that the world around him would change. His father died in what could have been a white brutality crime, and his mother was admitted to an insane asylum in 1939. After doing well in school for a while, he lost motivation and became a stereotypical rebellious teenager. Only, instead of refusing to do his homework, his rebellion snowballed into his involvement in gangs and sale of drugs. In prison, he had a change of heart, and of faith. Malcolm found his way into the Nation of Islam.

The political cartoon to the left represents the juxtaposition between Malcolm's point of view on civil rights, and Martin Luther King Jr's point of view on civil rights. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in nonviolence and keeping peace. He cared more about feelings than actions. Malcolm X differed greatly by believing in a black dominated world that did not bother with keeping peace, but was only concerned with the attainment of human rights.
