He started to become faster and faster the more he ran and people told him to use his talent and run on the track, and he did. He started to train for the 1936 Berlin Olympics and he ran at it when he was 19 years old. His weight dropped below 100 pounds due to not having any food or water for the last 30 days. They drifted a total of 2,000 miles in those 47 days. He landed on the Marshall Islands that was occupied by the Japanese and was captured. He was taken to a prison camp in Japan and was badly tortured. He was later released from the camp after the war had ended.
