         <description><![CDATA[<div>When Louis was a young boy, he would steal from his neighborhood and be chased down by the cops so he could provide for his very poor family. He started to become faster and faster the more he ran and people told him to use his talent and run on the track, and he did. He started to train for the 1936 Berlin Olympics and he ran at it when he was 19 years old. He ran the 5000 meter in 14:46.8 and finished in eighth place.&nbsp;After the Olympics are over, he gets injured in several ways  and he quits to finish college. </div>]]></description>

He fought against the Japanese planes in Oahu just moments before they bombed Pearl Harbor. and killed over 2,400 people. He fought for the next 5 years until he was on a ship that got shot down while on a rescue mission and stranded him and his crew out at sea for 47 days. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Only three of the eleven flight members survived the plane landing and Louis was one of the survivors. His weight dropped below 100 pounds due to not having any food or water for the last 30 days. They drifted a total of 2,000 miles in those 47 days. He landed on the Marshall Islands that was occupied by the Japanese and was captured. He was taken to a prison camp in Japan and was badly tortured. He was later released from the camp after the war had ended. Soon after he returned home, he married Cynthia Applewhite and they had 1 son and 1 daughter.&nbsp; He died from pneumonia at the age of 97 at his home on July 2, 2014</div>]]></description>
