One of the biggest concerns with elementary school students using technology is that the students would get distracted by playing games on any computers they are told to work on. A couple of ways a teacher can help prevent this is by making sure to closely monitor students on computers and even blocking certain websites on the computer that students usually get on that have games.

I agree with Ty. I also believe another big safety concern for technology in Elementary is actually the safety of the technology itself. Most technology is expensive and most schools struggle to afford the technology in the first place, so replacing it is not an option. Teaching the students how to be safe and responsible with the expensive technology is important for preserving the technology.

As a teacher, I would be concerned with the effectiveness from learning on technology, are students actually learning or are they just playing or guessing? My plans for this would be to monitor their progress, if they aren't making progress I would take a break from playing on the technology and review through the lesson. One way to monitor their progress is by using a website or program that sends the teacher results of students work, a website that does this is WordWall.

A concern I would have using technology in an elementary classroom is the students getting easily distracted, or looking up things they shouldn't. You could practice safe ways to use technology and what is okay and not okay to be doing while online.

Hello, Meredith!! I think that my biggest concern for using technology in an Elementary classroom is that the students would get frustrated, which would make them not want to work and turn the learning environment into a negative one. However, I do believe that if you monitor it, that it will be an effective and fun way for students to learn in class!

I would be most concerned with the content that students may run into online. I think the first step to take would be to teach a lesson on internet safety. Set expectations from the beginning, not just when you run into a problem.

I think that a big safety concern is what the students are exposed to on the internet. There are many different sites that allow teachers to block content that is not school appropriate in order to keep their students safe. As long as teachers utilize those tools then they should be able to keep the students safe.
