He wanted to quit, but he kept going. One of the conflicts that they had to deal with was one that had to do with conflict inside one's mind. The three had to go on something called The Path, which is a very long "Path" to get to the main antagonist Kaine. They had to deal with the week long travel, and The Path was meant to mess up you mentally. Michael and Sarah have the same problem, they want The Path to end. Michael has horrible headaches, from Decay, and Sarah usually never get down and cries. Bryson dies early in The Path, and Michael and Sarah also have to deal with loosing a member of their group. Another conflict was when Michael realized that he was a tangent (artificial intelligence), and had a very hard time dealing with his new body that Kaine had given him. He has to now tel all of his friends, and get used to the real world, that he was never real until now. The third conflict was the fight with Kaine's "Army" and Michael was all alone, since that Sarah got hit by a lava ball. Michael had run away from Kaine, and fought his "army" back at his base.
