religion: some Christians believe that you should not eat meat on Fridays.
some followers of Buddha do not eat meat of any kind where as some others may not just eat beef or dairy products.
culture: some people visiting countries may have a different idea to what food is in their home country.
in some countries they eat animals that in other countries would be though of as pets.
when food makes you sick: maybe the persons body can not digest that kind of food for example gluten, that is found in wheat.
or they could be allergic to that kind of food for example peanuts, shellfish or even cows milk.
if a child has a medical condition such as cystic fibrosis: the child needs to have heaps and heaps of calories to help them wit the disease. fats and vitamins can easily g out of there bodies so they need to eat lots to make sure they keep enough for the childs body to function properly.
lactose intolerance: if a child is lactose intolerant then they need to limit or not consume at all any milk or dairy products, due t that being where lactose is most commonly found.

set a positive example: if children see you choose a chocolate bar over a healthy snack such as carrots or fruit then the child is more likely to choose an unhealthy option too. so make sure to demonstrate healthy eating.
explain what they are eating and why: help motivate children to make smart food choices by giving them ''grown up'' lessons whilst you cook and eat.
cook together: make healthy eating fun, cook dinner together and if the child is old enough then allow them to help with the food like peeling carrot or if they are rather young you could even give them the simple bit important task of watching the food timer.
teach the children that healthy doesnt meen yucky: show the children that healthy eating can taste good, offer the child a plate of fruit with a small pot of chocolate as dipping sauce for dessert, when children realise healthy isn't horrible they may take the approach to healthy food with a little more open-mindedness.

Babies: During these early stages of life it is almost all about milk, weather its breast milk, formula or a combination of the two. both breastmilk or formula will provide practically every nutrient a baby needs for the first year or so of life.

Toddlers and pre-schoolers: Grow in spurts and appetites will too. this is the time to encourage fruit, veg , whole grains and beans, which all provide fibre, not only does fibre prevent heart disease and other conditions but it also helps aid digestion.

Primary schoolers: it isn't uncommon for a 6 or 7 year old to suddenly decide to be a vegetarian once they understand animals and where food comes from, this does not mean the child wont get enough protein, as animal tissue isn't the only place we get protein. rice, beans, eggs, milk and peanut utter all have protein in so weather vegetarian or not the child will likely still get a sufficient amount of protein that they need.

The Mulberry Bush day nursery has done extremely well with helping children's dietary requirements, for example there is a student that cant have dairy products so the staff have provided other non dairy product so the child can still join in with the rest of the children, this demonstrates really good inclusive practice, however regardless of being informed and aware the student was still given dairy products due to lack of supervision therefore not showing good observation.
on the other hand the settings staff have set up good systems for promoting healthy eating by having healthy eating activities once a month, this supports the children and encourages healthy eating regularly by having the consistency of doing the activities once a month, this also makes healthy eating fun and engaging for the children.
