Rome was at the centre of a web of roads that lead to North England and as far out as the Indian Ocean coastline, parts of which were controlled by the Roman Empire for about 507 years. The Romans dominated this area for quite some time with their formidable armies, and they conquered many areas including most of Europe, the Northern coast of Africa and parts of the Middle East. The advanced infrastructure of this area contributed to the success of the Roman Empire. This included the development of roads, complete with gutters. In building these main roads, the Romans were able to travel to surrounding countries a lot more efficiently. Along these roads of travel, the Romans adapted Greek and Latin as their two main languages, from the many different cultures in the multiple regions that these roads intersected.

Saul was a man who was raised by very strict Jewish parents and started his life as a persecutor of Christians. However, he later converted from Judaism to Christianity, after he encountered the power of God's love and salvation. From then on, he was known as Paul and he was inspired to spread the message of God's love to all of the people he encountered during three long journeys throughout the Mediterranean. He also spread his God's message in the 13 letters that he wrote.

Paul's first journey was the start of his mission to spread the message of God's love. He started off in Antioch, East Southeast of Tarsus (his home town). Then he traveled to Seleucia; Salamis; Paphos; Attalia; the Second Antioch; Iconium; Lystra; Derbe; back to the Second Antioch; Pamphylia; and he completed his journey in Antioch. Paul traveled a total of 1,581 miles during his first journey. This was the shortest of his three journeys.

Paul wrote 13 letters to different people across the Mediterranean. He wrote these letters to preach to Jews, Christians and Gentiles about Jesus’s life; death and resurrection; and to help them understand that God’s salvation and love was available to everyone, without the need for strict Jewish customs. These 13 letters also addressed issues within the Church and its leaders. In 1 Corinthians, he reminds the church leaders of following and teaching the true Christian virtues instead of the old Jewish laws.

Post 5 - Challenges that Paul faced in spreading the message

Teaching people about the Christian faith and spreading God's message was not easy. Trying to convey the message that everyone could receive God's salvation was a challenge, because some Jewish people followed strict customs, which they considered to be an integral part of their faith and they were not easily persuaded. These differences in beliefs caused conflict and controversy between many people.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7, conveys the message that we are all graced with different gifts and talents that have been bestowed upon us by God and the Holy Spirit. These gifts and talents are manifested in many different ways. This message is still relevant today because it reminds us that as individuals, we each have something good to offer and we should share our talents for the benefit of others. For example, when individuals come together, they make a community stronger. We have seen this recently with the aid given to our struggling farmers. Individuals who have never met each other, we able to improve the lives of others, simply by sharing their compassion and kindness.
