Conclusions on Connecting to Professional Communities

* All Professional Learning Communities that I joined on Facebook and the group I followed on Twitter were full of amazing articles, tips and inspiration that I will continue to utilize to improve my practice and ultimately help student achievement
* The groups that I joined had a very Humanistic, Student Centered Design approach to their planning, instruction and assessment
* Loved seeing references to the importance of PLN's: "without a PLN of some sort you feel so lonely" Rick Wormeli & "PLN's remind us our world is large and there are others out there who understand our roles. We are not alone. And they help us grow!" Sarah Johnson
FACEBOOK GROUPS
* Of the Facebook Learning Communities I join, the closed groups (required a very simple process to join) resulted in more responses and community both for my specific question and overall. Felt very comfortable posting.
* In the future, I will use the closed facebook groups to not only access resources but also to reach out ask and answer questions (specifically Teach with Tech, Build Math Minds and Fifth Grade Teaching Ideas)
TWITTER
* Twitter while very inspirational and positive, had a different community feel and for me felt like "the popular group" that was intimidating to break into.
* My tweets were not widely viewed and had no responses, likely due to my limited following and lack of proper "tagging".
* I will continue following all these amazing educators but due to volume will likely constantly update my "following" list to make sure their tweets continue to be relevant to my needs. If I have a specific question for a specific person, I would be comfortable tweeting to them, however, at this time I am unlikely to tweet out in general with my limited following.
