Q. how long has the mspca been operating and whats its history.
A. The mspca is an interesting story a man by the name of George Angell just after the civil war in 1868 he was an attorney in the boston area and he was also partnered with an abolitionist. George read a news paper story in the boston news papers one day about two people who had wagered a bet on racing two horses from boston to worcester and during the race the horses died of exhaustion and being overworked so George was disgusted by what happened so he wrote a letter to the boston news papers letter to the editor explaining the situation and how its a travesty that no laws were in place to charge these people for abusing these animals so another woman named abigail she came from a very prominent boston family who had a lot of money she was a lover of animals and she read Georges letter to the editor and equally she was very upset as well so they both connected with each other and with in 30 days of that race they created the MSPCA and started it in 1868 and also the first animal cruelty laws were passed in massachusetts all because of George and Abigail coming forward and doing something this was the beginning of the MSPCA and are still going on today.

Q. how does the mspca work with local communities organizations and governmental agencies to achieve its goals.
A. roughly we have 900 employes of the mspca one component of the mspca is our law enforcement department we are sworn police officers there are eight of us with the mspca overall we have an advocacy group section which advocates for humane treatment of animals and to work with legestaters to advocate for laws to be passed to protect animals we also run a number of emergency hotlines there is also shelters and hospitals we also have a farm up in methuen mass the law enforcement department cooperates with supporting local police departments and investigations we can bring expertise and specialized law enforcement to assist local police departments and communities with high level animal cruelty investigations and we also have the capacity to take in animals to whether evidence of criminal case or to keep them for safe keeping and also rehabilitation as well. we have a large team of vets experts and equine farm animals and support staff and two lawyers on staff to advocate for law changes.

Q. how can individuals support and help mspca and contribute to its mission
A.people can support by contributing financially to the mspca so the mspca can contribute to provide quality care which is recognized around the world our vets and the staff financially would help also they can contribute by volunteering as well people can volunteer at the farm.
