My Philosophy of Classroom Management

My classroom management philosophy revolves around the idea that it is just as much the students classroom as it is mine. When there is problem behavior, I need to see it as a learning opportunity for the entire classroom, not just a specific student/s. Spending time to implement and review classroom expectations and procedures is vital in order for the classroom to be well managed. It is important to always "Assume the Best" for each student, because letting students know that you are rooting for them might be exactly the motivation they need in order to be the best version of themselves.

Ideal Classroom Rationale

Attached is my ideal version of a special education classroom. The desks are the ones the middle school has in their science and math classrooms, where the top is a dry erase board and they are easy to move and rearrange depending on the activity. They are also easy to separate, seeing as some students will come in my room to be in a smaller setting or alone. The semi-circle desk is ideal to me to do a small pullout, especially to review a lesson. I feel as though that allows for a more comfortable setting that you do not get in the typical classroom and it puts the students and I on the same level. I would also prefer to have a Promethean board, seeing as it is interactive and can be used in multiple ways. The rug area can be used for students that need to take a break for a few minutes and creates the sense that my room is a safe space. I placed my desk at the back, because when I do have students in my room, I won't be sitting down at my desk, I will be actively doing something alongside them. I currently teach sixth grade inclusion, focusing on math and I believe that this set up would be ideal for when it is necessary to pull students into my classroom.
