As teachers, we have already been  through the formal learning both in the university phase and in the in-service phase. The formal learning can be said to be the back bone of our professional job life. Formal learning is structured and it mostly has time limitations. There is always an instructor who organises our learning.
Informal learning is not structured. It is not a compulsory thing. It mostly depends on our own pace and goals. We have always been in this kind of learning because every day we learn something new by our own experience.

Personal Learning Networks

I use online PLNs for personal development in my job. I use mostly Facebook groups to interact with other colleagues (mostly)  from my own country. This kind of network has too many advantages. I can ask a question and ask for an advice or answer and give advice to my colleagues in the fastest way. PLNs give me a free environment where I can enter whenever I need to. PLNs give me an opportunity to have my own voice throughout the world.

When students have access to the Internet at home, the traditional homework task can be upgraded to an activity that supports active, collaborative and independent learning.
Design a homework assignment suitable for the age group you plan to teach. The homework assignment should take about one hour over 2-3 evenings, involve an online element, and have no teacher involvement. Make sure there is a social element, e.g. students can comment or collaborate with peers. If possible, add a link to the task you create and any apps or tools used.
Examples:
  1. Create a Padlet board and ask your pupils to take a photo that connects to something they have learnt in your lesson. Ask them to explain why they chose the picture and to comment on pictures of other pupils.
  2. Organise an online brainstorm about the programme of a school trip and set up a Tricider board for it.
  3. Ask students to collectively write a story in small groups and use OneNote or Google Docs.
