Too often young children may feel discouraged when someone says their name wrong and may be too shy or embarrassed to correct them. Then they go on responding to the incorrect pronunciation of their name. I always tell my students that it is important to me to say their name the way they know it is meant to be said, and I think it is important to establish that fact early on.
