Their fascination in rebellion helped create the Punk style with loads of leather, zips, skulls etc. A lot of tartan, historical and cultural significance.

They created the store "Sex" - considered provocative then and now, as it goes against the notion of british politeness and morals+ conservative values. The didnt care about appealing to the mainstream- exclusivitiy. Not for the average customer, you have to be part of the followers.

Streetwear focuses on logos etc and VW has the iconic logo/ fabric (tartan) associated with the brand. Palace is also from London. Streetwear culture is also mostly working class youths, therefore reaching out to this market makes the VW more accesible to this subculture; this works also as a marketing strategy where the skateboard culture is outside a lot etc. so they get physical exposure of the collab
