This picture of a father and daughter together is reflective about the relationship Jeannette had with Rex. Jeannette says "But despite all the hell-raising and destruction and chaos he had created in our lives, I could not imagine what my life would be like- what the world would be like--without him in it. As awful as he could be, I always knew he loved me in a way no one else ever had."
Rex was really unhinged and hurt Jeannette in ways that no one could. But as a child and as he lied on his deathbed, Jeannette still loved him and knew he loved her.

The photo above represents when the kids were eating literal ingredients so they wouldn't starve. When Rex and Rose Mary would purchase groceries, they barely got enough to last them a week or so. "Mix it with sugar. Tastes just like frosting." I made some. It didn't taste like frosting. It was sort of crunchy, because the sugar didn't dissolve, and it was greasy and left a filmy coat in my mouth. But I ate it all anyway." Jeannette says. The kids had to eat whatever they could get their hands on to fill their mouths since their own parents wouldn't.

The photo of the father drinking in front of his daughter is a perfect representation of how Rex's habits hurts his family but he refuses to change. Jeannette states in the book "Keeping my eyes fastened on those distant clouds, I took a breath and said, "Do you think you could maybe stop drinking?" Dad said nothing. He was staring down at the cement patio, and when he turned to me, his eyes had a wounded look, like a dog who's been kicked. "You must be awfully ashamed of your old man, he said." Rex would later take his aggression on Rose Mary and throughout the memoir do despicable things just to get money for a bottle.

Even as Jeannette shows her father how it affects her, he still doesn't change.

This picture of a child climbing a latter is reflective about the dream the family had of building the glass castle. Climbing for something they can't reach. "Never did build that Glass Castle." "No. But we had fun planning it." "Those were some damn fine plans." The conversation between Rex and Jeannette was heartfelt and really shows how the dream of the glass castle died a long time ago.

The picture above shows a cat looking into a mirror thinking it's a tiger and a big dog thinking it's tiny. This represents the delusions that people have. An example being Rose Mary's delusions about literally everything. "You want to help me change my life?" Mom asked. "I'm fine. You're the one who needs help. Your values are all confused." Rose Mary's delusions are shown all throughout the memoir an example being when she asked Jeannette for a million dollars for a plot of land or when she shamed the nurse for chewing gum by calling it a "low class habit" even though her family and herself was low class.

This picture of a maze can represent how all of the Walls kids went through so much hardship and obstacles trying to find a way out of their Hellhole life. Ultimately they decide to leave their parents and head to New York. Once Jeannette and Lori were living together, they both got jobs to support themselves. They even got a decent apartment to share. Jeannette says "Our apartment was bigger than the entire house on Little Hobart Street, and way fancier. It had shiny oak parquet floors, a foyer with two steps leading down into the living room--where I slept--and, off to the side, a bedroom that became Lori's. We also had a kitchen with a working refrigerator and a gas stove that had a pilot light, so you didn't need matches to get it going, you just turned the dial, listened to the clicking, then watched the circle of blue flame flare up through the tiny holes in the burner." They improved so much than where they were before and Jeannette even went to college.
