Was air, land, or sea more influential in shaping the course of the war? by Joshua Draper

Friday's lesson: Place your pin on the map on the Eastern Front and explain why you believe that land warfare was important in leading to the victory of the Second World War. Think about the environment of the Eastern Front.

We will plot our pins around the world in future lessons and think about how their environment helped the outcome of the war.

I think land warfare in the Eastern front shaped the course of the Second World War. The flat open plains on the Eastern Front provided little cover for the Axis and Allied forces. However, the rough terrain and weather startled the Axis as they weren’t used to it like the Red Army. This allowed the Allies to exploit their knowledge of the landscape and win the decisive battle of Stalingrad even after loosing badly in Operation Barbarossa.

This caused land to be more influential in shaping the course of the war because these battles were very significant as it gave a huge advantage to the allies, and severely disadvantaged Germany
