<var>Hello! I'm Amanda Macêdo l, number 1, not because I'm a beast in English 😅🥲 just in alphabetical order, well, in this first unit of English, we study about the environment that in general refers to the set of physical, biological and chemical factors that surround living beings, influencing them and being influenced by them. And as the environment is so important to us, because it provides us with all the resources we need for our survival, we need to take care of the planet we live on. But how do I do that, Amanda? In a way it is simple, but it only works if we all work together and do small things that help the planet, such as: saving water, using less plastic, separating garbage, not throwing garbage on the street, decreasing the consumption of electricity and among other things that everyone can do without so much sacrifice. We addressed several topics, and we were proposed to make a group video on an environmental problem, I (Amanda), Ayana, Liubov and Yasmin got together and addressed the topic of air pollution, as shown in the video below ⬇️: </var>

Are you FOR or AGAINST the genetic modification of organisms?

Genetic modification is a term for the process of manipulating genes in an organism, usually outside its normal reproductive process. They often involve the isolation, manipulation and introduction of DNA into a living being, usually to express a gene. The goal is to introduce new characteristics in a living being to increase its usefulness, such as increasing the area of a species of cultivation, introducing a new characteristic, or producing a new protein or enzyme.
Regarding agreeing or not with the genetic modification of organisms, in my opinion, I do not have a precise answer, about being 100% bad or 100% good, because in your thesis, a series of benefits, being able to eradicate serious diseases and reduce an incredible burden of human suffering, namely cancer cures, and prolong life. However, the risks (which can lead to death or other catastrophes) are great and must be known. On the one hand, I know that genetic modification brings advantages and new advances, both in humans, animals and plants. for example some deadly diseases can be eliminated; being able to detect problems even before children are born and exterminate them; prolong life; design foods that are able to withstand severe temperatures and that are full of all the nutrients that humans and animals need to survive, but on the other hand, this is the "destiny" of human beings, to follow the cycle of life: to be born, to grow , reproduce and die, if all our diseases and genetic "mistakes" were eradicated, we would be overpopulated, and for now the earth is the only habitable planet, too (but this is my opinion), I don't like the idea of changing the genetics of children, for example, choosing the color of the eyes, skin, hair type and among others, just for aesthetics, making decisions that will positively affect this child or not, for example, there may be a preference for white children (which can trigger in the minds of racist, Nazi and prejudiced and violent people, a population formed only by white people, consequently regressing in history, but, with advanced technology, they could actually put into practice harmful actions to the world and people people who live in it, not to mention that there can always be a choice of gender (eg: male), and end up unbalancing the natural balance.
So after we've covered both sides of genetic modification of organisms, let's present their advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, genetically modified crops produce increased yields that help feed large numbers of populations with minimal resources, however, these genetically modified crops increased toxin production to levels that are already harmful to humans; cure of any kind of terminal diseases and genetics, however, overcrowding on planet earth; advances in medicine, remedies and experiments created, however, the creation of super powerful weapons and bombs, capable of achieving total destruction; improvement of human capabilities, eg speed, strength, flexibility and even "special" capabilities, such as flying, however, everyone becomes "super heroes" and loses the essence of humanity and also emotions and feelings, because as they all have skills, they don't need anyone, ending up being cold towards others and technically becoming a kind of robots. These are some of the advantages and disadvantages of genetically modifying organisms (there are many other examples) that roughly agree with my opinion that genetic engineering should be used sparingly.
In conclusion, genetic engineering brings many benefits to society and the world (technological and genetic advances). that is, psychological and social tests, looking for sanity and (socially considered) good/exemplary character; the amount inserted (so as not to be something so aggravating and that it could release harmful toxins, e.g. excessive use in the foods we eat) and the reason for this modification, being used only for necessary purposes, such as terminal illnesses, genetic flaws that prevent people to live normally and among others.

NOTE: making it clear that I did it with my words, using the translator and the support of the notebook and texts I received in class :)
